    Question Opnions/reviews of Reliance JioFi2

    Hi all,

Has anybody used Reliance JioFi2 wifi router for surfing the internet through a laptop? I plan to buy a JioFi2 device in th near future. I met the sales guys in Reliance Digital and heard their sales talk but want to get opinions of real buyers/users.

Any of you have used JioFi2 for surfing the internet on a laptop?

    Does JioFi2 support:
    • Ubuntu Linux laptops, Andriod phones & tablets?
    • support MAC ID filtering?
    • encryption using WPA2-PSK?
    • custom IP address for JioFi router (default IP address is set to 192.162.0.0; change this to for ex. 192.162.55.12)?
    • DHCP (enable start IP address & end IP address)? Enable/disable IP addresses so that most of the IP addresses are disabled and less than 5-10 are left open?

    Thanks for the replies!

Note: I am located in Hyderabad/Sec'bad area.

To be honest there is no point buying one of those jiofi things. I have four Reliance JIO connections in my household and I find their data connectivity to be good as well. I normally use the Reliance JIO connection as a backup to my main broadband connections. I have an Excitel 100mbps connection and a Nextra 50mbps connection and for one of those bad days when nothing works I use Reliance JIO as being a mobile service it does not fail me.

I use JIO sim in a mobile phone as and to those spending money on a wifi router I would say try using tethering on a mobile phone and it would work pretty well even for long hours.

For those who want to use a JIO sim as their main data connection , please know that in very densely populated areas like here at New Delhi you will experience slow speeds even when your signal strength is top notch. I travel a lot and when I am out side Delhi my speed is never less than 20mbps but within Delhi in the evenings it drops down to 1-2mbps as well.

    Default JioFi2

I live in Lucknow and travel frequently to Delhi and Mathura.
I have a Samsung 3G Core Prime smartphone. To avail of the various free schemes of Jio, in August last I had bought a pebble size JioFi2 and inserted the Jio 4G Volte SIM in the same which now connects my desktop PC and the Samsung phone to the net. The speed is okay for me working from home using 2-3GB/day. Wired broadband in my part of "Lucklessnow" is crap to say the least.
While travelling all I need to carry with my smartphone is the JioFi2 and an Intex 6000 milliamp power bank with respective chargers.
The admin may be aware of my earlier post(s) of ascertaining a good 4G VoLTE phone and I had gone ahead and purchased a Samsung ON5. However, the same was "pinched" away by my daughter studying at GLA, Mathura, leaving her older Samsung 3G Core Prime phone.

Go ahead and buy a JioFi2 as their pricing schemes are at ground level compared to cheats of yesteryears: Voda, Airtel, Idea, Aircel, RCom, etc. Net connectivity is better than Besharam Nigam Ltd (BSNL).

Some other companies have started to lower their prices for data these days but I find JIO's connectivity to be the best while traveling. In Delhi JIO suffers from network congestion during day time.

I was advising not buying a jiofi modem because you get a 4g phone for a little more and it would also serve you for making phone calls so you wont need one sim for data and another for calls. It is an unnecessary monthly expense as you could be doing both the things with just one sim inserted in a mobile phone.

@gspal I would like to invite you to our other forum https://www.indiatravelforum.in if you have interest in traveling. Do check it out some time.

my simple, 2-paise on it, after a usage of more than 6 months now:

    1. as @admin wrote, connectivity is good. i had bought the modem specifically to be used during travel, and at office. serves me well. used it on highways, near forests, etc. most times, was in range.

    2. battery back-up is more than decent.

    3. the daily cap of 1GB seems very restricting. and at times, feels like it got over too soon without me utilising it properly!

    4. its physically robust & well-built for rough usage.

    5. speed is generally decent-to-good, even when on-the-go. i mostly use it to watch videos and browse websites.

    Hi

Nice to know about your experience with Jio fi modem!I too bought one on 20th dec 17 as an add on to my homne BSNL BB wi fi which runs on rs
Rs 699 ULTD! I live in Mysore.Unlucky for me Jio Fi connectivitiy in my area is not very good.It gets disconnected too often.I contacted Jio customer care an d was told more towers are going to be put up.I carry Jio fi around when I go to different places in Mysore.I get speeds ranging between 16-25Mbps.but this fluctuation in speed in connectivity speed is a concern. In my house it drops down to 2.5 mbps.I hope with more towers the connectivity will surely improve.
