Default Airtel 3G Tarrif and Website :

Airtel has started the 3g website :

3G Network, 3G Communications, airtel 3G mobile services

Some of the FAQ here :

Is my mobile compatible for 3G services?

Can I Get 3G services on my existing number?

Yes, 3G services can be enabled on your existing number provided you have a 3G handset.

Do I need to change my SIM?

No, you don't need to change your SIM.

What would be displayed on my handset if I am on a 3G network?

    *
You would see 3G/3.5G/H displayed on your handset just below the signal symbol on the top left of your screen. The text for 3G Network might vary from device to device and the feature support.

    Will I be charged differently?

    *
Yes, there will be various plans available for various service packages and applications. For details, please log on to Discover a world of possibilities with 3G on your mobile or contact the nearest Airtel Relationship Centre.

What applications / content would be available?

    *
Data Download and Mobile Broadband, Video Calls, and Mobile TV will be available, in addition to all the current applications.

Will I be able to play Online games using my 3G connection?

Yes, 3G provides an access to high speed internet which requires large bandwidth for transactions, so you can play and create your own games on the internet!

What's the difference between 3G, EDGE, GPRS and WAP?

3G: is the next generation of mobile communications. Think of it as a better version of 2G. It will provide faster / higher data rates (throughput) compared to the 2G network (EDGE & GPRS).

EDGE: refers to a service enhancement on the 2G network that provides higher data rates compared to GPRS (the default on 2G).

GPRS: refers to a service on the 2G network that provides basic data rates of between 56-114Kbps (like dial-up speed).

WAP: refers to a standard that allows customers to access mobile web from their phones. This refers to browsing websites built for the mobile phone using a WAP browser. However, WAP is gradually becoming obsolete, as more advanced phones enter the market. Most new phones today are able to access websites you see / use on your PC, and you won’t see a difference.

How do I get to know more about 3G from Airtel?

We will inform all our customers about the activation process of 3G, it’s availability in your area, charges etc. as soon as we launch our 3G services. You will also be able to access all this information on Discover a world of possibilities with 3G on your mobile

I hope tariff will be introduced soon.

HSDPA is actually 3.5 G . majority of deployments give upto 7Mbps.
WCDMA / UMTS are 3 G tech. with max speeds upto 3Mbps
