Thread: Getting 3G speeds at 2G plan [Chennai]

Presently at Choolaimedu, Chennai. 2G plan activated, 3.5G Signals are available here I just got a 98 INR booster today ... And while browsing I experienced extreme browsing speeds ... And my guess was correct ... I was getting 3G speeds at my 2G connection. I used Nokia 5800 Xpress Music + Ovi Suite. 3.6 MBPS phone modem was able to do wonders

Check the snapshot. And the Speed histogram proves that it was steady and not a speed bump

even i experience the same!!!!!!!! getting 1.5mbps speed in mobile itself...dint get this speed in mobile through bsnl 3g... airtel rockzzzz...

jus with gprs pack!! 50mb for 2days at 5rs. amazing.... jus use this trick... activate a plan in 2g.. then change to umts[3g] not dual mode.. and start surfing..!!!

can activate any plan on 2g and surf on 3g..

Does this work in Airtel higher value pack? You are talking Rs 5 /50 MB /2 days right? what about in monthly pack?( Rs 90/2gb)
Blade Boy- you are referring higher speeds in BSNL GPRS or Airtel GPRS?
(BSNL according to many posters has already capped in Rs 274 GPRS pack to 20/30KBS !)

Now that BSNL has already shown its hand in future pricing -we got to think of alternatives like Airtel,Aircel,Reliance in 3g.
up/down speed ,generally poor browsing experience compared to downloads making me think -can I get a better quality 3g for Rs 1500-15 GB ?

yeah.. now i'm using 2gb pack.. its workin fine.. getting exact 3g speeds

Hi all even i was using the 3g speed in 2g booster packs. But they have stopped it today. I am using Nokia 5800XM. From today morning its too slower than 2g speed. Just tried many times even after switching off and on again but no use.

Today i also dint get the desired speed as i used to get 1MBPS download speed.
I think they are upgrading thr network to 21Mbps bcos i got 300-400KBPS download speed many times in Bangalore today and after that suddenly speed dropped to 5KBPS after that again increased ....

Maybe i Chennai they are doing the same upgradation work i guess.

Hi i dont think that they doing some thing with technology. I think they just wanted us to use their fast internet in the mobile for few days and then stop it, so that all those who used that fast internet will automatically move to 3g booster packs. These are business tricks.

airtel sucks

Hi all did u all get any speed from last two days in airtel 3g card with 2g booster. Because i didnt even get once. Even my 2g speed is a bit faster than selecting UMTS. Waiting for ur replies

hi i am from delhi .. here we cannot switch from 2g to 3g . as first we have to activate 3g .we cannot get 3g signal unless it is not activated & once 3g is activated all the 2g plan is going to deactivated .....

hi guys .... rs 1500 for 15 gb is to costly . once all operator launches there 3g service then there may be possibility in decreasing their tarriff plans for 3g ....


so just wait for some more days

hi, 98 pack also makes browsing faster but not all the times. I think for certain MB its faster and again it reduces.

speeds reduced to 2g.. tat was a just promo offer... and its over..so even if u use 2g pack in 3g mode you'll hav 2g speeds only even though u see 3.5g as your data transfer..

i am still getting the 3g speed on 2g plan .... i am from delhi ....

in delhi, its launched recently thats why you are geting this much.
wait few moe days and u'll be put back to 2g speed.

Ok any way guys it seems that we are not going to get any more 3g speeds in 2g. Lets talk about 3g speed with different networks. Which is the best. BSNL or Airtel. Cost wise i can say that BSNL is dead cheaper than Airtel. But wat about the Speed. Can any one comment on this.
