Thread: Doubt regarding 3g Activation

Hi Friends,
I'm from Hyderabad. Airtel has started 3g in Hyderabad today. I have 6 months Internet package activated from my sim. 3 months will be completed today. The package will be renewed tmrw. I heard that activating 3G will deactivate 2G internet plans. So my question is that Should i activate 3g..?? If i activate 3g today, does my 2g data plan will be renewed tmrw.?? Please help me

dont activate 3G now.
let ur 2G plan renewd by itself and then u use that 2G pack in UMTS (3G) mode.
im sure you will get 3G speed as, airtel recently gave access to its 3G network there.

I activated 3g, but my 2g data plan didn't deactivated. Nw i'm getting speeds around 3mbps at 2g data plan..

what do u mean by "use that 2G pack in UMTS (3G) mode"

As I am using RC96 Plan on my iPhone 3GS, kindly let me know how to go for 3G mode

cant say anything about iphone as never used it

There must be a option to select band. GSM/UMTS seperately or Dual mode in network settings. I use my HTC on dual mode and use 2g packs and I get 3G speeds where 3G network is available in Delhi

I'm also getting 3g speeds but only 1.5 mbps
After checking your post , i just checked whether AIRTEL 3G is available at my place (wgl) or not.

What i found is that it’s available and they might be testing at my place.



My mom has airtel number and i have recharged it with 98 rs 2G DATA PACK ( 2GB for 30 days) after that i have activated 3G by sending SMS i.e. 3G to 121 and i got message that all existing 2G data packs will be deactivated when migrating to 3G but i took risk and replied it with 1 for activation)

After 5 Minutes 3G has activated on my phone and i when i checked my DATA BALANCE by *123*10# it has showed me 2080 MB.
It didn’t get erased and my usages charges are deducted from my 2G DATA ACCOUNT only.
Internet was disconnecting on my phone and i inserted my sim in umg 1831 , now in data card i didn’t face any disconnections. Signal is low but no disconnections and i am getting 3G speeds on 2G pack.



Current speed shows ......latency is low, which is good.










I know that 3G speeds on 2G packs will not last for too long, i had similar experience with AIRCEL 3G where this trick lasted for only 2 days. i just need to wait and watch for how many days i can enjoy these speeds . BTW they are just testing i believe

UPDATE : This trick is not only limited for 98 recharge but it's also
working with 251 recharge ( 8 GB ) , getting 3g speeds on 251 recharge too....

You need to check it with the operator.

Wonderful speeds on Airtel 3g, i am getting downloading speed @ 500 KBps but one of my friend is getting downloading speed @ 800-900 kBps

Guys i also activated 3g on my iPhone 4.But my problem is that i m a postpaid user..And also i had 98rps 2gb gprs plan.
So wot i did is i activated 3g plan.But nw i m not sure dat whether it is activated to my old gprs plan or not?????//

nd also one thing i hve to tell here...If u ppl knw abt iphone,there will be one option to enable 3g.If we on that then 3g will on.So for testing,wot i did is i switched off dat nd activated nly data plan.on that i was getting nly 10kbps wot i say is old gprs speed.
But wen i switched on 3g,den i used to get more dan 100kbps(i dint checked for long time,since i was afraid of loosing more money)..
So wot shall i do???//

Did you call customer care to ask if there is a way to keep watch on your data usage, like in prepaid you can dial *123*10# to check data usage. Dont take risk in 3G, as i had suffered last month in my prepaid. I forgot to recharge my 98 internet pack and i was using google maps and mode was 3G. when i disconnected the main balance was down by Rs74 in an hour.

in iPhone there is inbuilt option where i can check data usage..
but my quest is whether i m in old gprs plan(98 rps,2gb ) .because after activating 3g i m getting more than 100kbps ..and also before activating 3g,i was in 98rps plan..
Since i m in postpaid i hve dis doubt...
so do u hve ny suggestions?????//

one imp thing..after i send 3g activation to 121,it replied dat if i hve ny gprs plan den same will be deactivated..so wot it means?//
and after activating,i got reply dat
"3g GPRS service(volume based) has been activated on your airtel mobile"
So i want help frm any ppl who hve idea abt dis..please....

I would suggest you to call Customer care instead of asking here, as I think 3G has been activated on your number and the 2G plan and 3G speed trick only works on 2G plans and selecting dual mode in mobile.

You will end up with huge bills on 3G plan with any data plan which already are too expensive. You can enquire if you can switch back to 2G plans in Airtel.

I know this would not help you, but atleast save you from huge bills. Does Airtel Account shows Outstanding bill in my account or you can know your outstanding by dialing *121# from postpaid also. Check these balances for 3-4 days and use the internet also. If the Amounts are too much you can know if its due to calling or internet.

if that is 2g plan means we hav to reacharge and the sending 3g to 121 then only we hav to use right ..!

1) Plz remove your mobile number.
2) 251rs recharge is a 2g plan NOT 3G, i was lucky in getting 3g speeds in 2g packs at that time, NOW NO MORE 3G SPEEDS on GPRS PACKS. AIRTEL STOPPED IT...don't try and waste your money, now 251 recharge gives you 4gbdata usage val 30days, earlier 8gb val 90days, speeds upto 250kbps, avg speed 160kbps(20KBps)
3) You can recharge any 3g plan from retailers OR also by sending 3G to 121...
4) You can recharge any 2g plan from retailers OR also by *567#

NO TRICKS/LOOPHOLES......
