(U.P East)

Thanks mickey for ur prompt reply... but am in tamil nadu now... so wondering how it works here...
Abhishek, thanks for ur post as well... which place u r from...??
Airtel 3G is good in South including Taminadu.
Buying a locked Airtel USB 3G stick from them is foolish
( They will give you most probably E1731/E1732 @ Rs 1800 that too locked!)
Buying post paid Airtel 3G connection with 3G data stick - I have to refer you to our Resident Consultant Pscyhiatrist !!
Dont buy at any cost Airtel 3.6 mbps modem/data card with pre paid/post paid..
You are a Noobie in 3G world and they know it and will hit you with all they can.( past experience)
Get a unlocked Huawei 7.2 mbps datacard E173/ E 1750c from Ebay and get a Airtel sim for Rs 20/30 and activate 3G and put Rs 100 or the smallest 3G pre paid pack and check signal.
Most are hesitant to buy online.
If you buy locked device from shop, you should know how to unlock it.![]()

Airtel 3g worked very well in Chennai and on my way to Pondichery and Kumbhkonam (by road) Bsnl 3g signal was pretty strong through out with good browsing speed. I wasent downloading anything so no idea about downloading speeds but e-mailing and messenger and browsing websites was good.
Thanks tolkapiam for your wonderful information... am gonna look for data card from ebay first... thanks a lot... new info for me...
Since you indicated that you travel a lot, in case your travel takes you to tier-II cities, better go for BSNL 3G.
you can buy any unlocked modem from ebay or other source (huawei E1750 and E220 are known to be good performers) and take 3G SIM from BSNL.
Only BSNL has All India coverage and BSNL 3G network are the best options for Tier-II cities.
And go for pre-paid.
