| Bronze Member | Hi all, Has anyone faced the following kind of DNS problem with Airtel? I've been working on an online uploading work. Suddenly the website that I work stopped opening. Then I tried to access the same site using IP (because it has a dedicated IP). I could do that without any issues. I initially thought it was an issue with the site's web host or domain registrar. In the mean time, I could access all other websites. I called Airtel CC, and asked them where the problem is. They said they could open the site from their office/area and asked my dns setting. I said I didn't change any default settings. And finally they told me how to find the dns through router page. I did find it and told them, they were 203.145.184.13 and 203.145.184.32. They said Keep the second one as it is, but delete the first one and change into 203.145.184.40. Nothing worked out for me. I just cursed them why they can't change it themselves from their servers, because it's the default dns settings. Later when I changed into openDNS, I could access the same site without any difficulty. I wonder what happened and how it could've happened. After using openDNS for nearly 24 hours, again I got the problem accessing the sites, this time I could not access _any_ site. So I set the modem to choose default DNS settings. Luckily I could access all the sites, then. Has anyone faced similar problem? Is Airtel doing something against openDNS? I just wonder how these kind of things possible in Airtel. I always regarded Airtel as the best option available in India. Now I think I should change my views towards Airtel. Thanks and regards, Pothi. |

Rep Power: 0 | Airtel might not do anything against OpenDNS (they might have, i could be wrong), at least there is no apparent reason. Its possible however that it was a case of DNS cache poisoning. When you say the site stopped opening, was the browser redirecting to some other site ? or was it taking you to a domain registration site ? |

| Bronze Member | Hi Jakemake, Thank you for your reply. I thought I was the only one facing this problem. There are so many hours I wasted this Monday and Tuesday because of this until I changed my DNS to openDNS. Dear beat_root, Thank you for your concern, too. Thanking you, Pothi. |

| Bronze Member | Dear Canardo, Are you sure that you've restarted the modem for the DNS changes to take effect? Also make sure NOT to keep your modem for a prolonged time say for more than 24 hours. It did affect the way the DNS work, even though it's openDNS. So nowadays I restart my modem, every 24 hours or less than that. (Earlier I never used to restart my modem when I was using the default DNS with Airtel.) It(openDNS) works perfectly for me for the past two days. Kind regards, Pothi. |
