Default Broadband Usage increases if connected to LAN

I have Airtel 995 plan broadband connection. I've noticed that the usage and consequently the bill inflates if the router is connected to the switch (to connect to the network).

I've a feeling that the downloads on one PC get mirrored on other ports thereby increasing the usage. I'm not a technical guy, but is there any way to curtail usage if the connection is being shared on the network.

It should not make any difference. Is it a wireless router? if yes have you password protected it? may be some one else near by might be using your connection... if its not secured.

No it is not a wireless network.

I have tried to use the connection without the network and the usage has dropped

1.please show old set up and new set up.
    2. Give details of modem, switch , router etc.
    3. how many computers in use ?

Para two : Use shaplus 1.2 to monitor daily download and total download. ( independent of ISP's ) will appear near Task Bar.
    see activity in both conditions.

    Default Network details.

The network uses a Dlink router and switch and there are four systems connected. The downloads are few and far between, except for mail and general browsing, for all four systems

IFthis plan is for limited download: Airtel 995.
Instal the shaplus meter in each computer.( all four)
Add the total usage per day. say oct 22nd.
Go to Airtel selfcare page and check usage for
that particular day, after 24 hours. say on 24th.
    The difference should be minor.
For genereal surfing use FireFox Browser with add ons
Adblock Plus , Flash block ,
or Opera Browser, in which you can block all images of
    frequently seen web pages.
When more than 4 computers are used better to opt for an
unlimited plan H24 . Check Tariff plans for your State.
