Thumbs up This Question might seem silly.

    Hi friends,

I have airtel broadband connection. I am planning to buy a D-link 2640T ADSL wireless router. My question is: "I will be connecting this wireless router to my stand alone computer in the hall, I will connect to the net in my laptop wireless. My question is if my PC is turned off and my router is on, can I access the internet using my laptop or is it compulsory that the PC must be turned on? Will I be able to share files between my PC and laptop if my PC is turned off". Thanks a lot for your patience.

That is not how it should be done.

Please refer to many guides in Broadband How to section. In particular, please read these:

    1. SOHO Guide
    2. Solution for multiple machines connecting to same BB connection

will be able to access internet on your laptop if u r main computr is turned off because u r getting the signals from the router not from your computer but in case of any file sharing both of your machines should be on.
