Cool Guys .. Clear This In Your Minds.... Your Download Speed Works Like This...

I Have seen many people here who says my download speed is slow and when they tell thier connection speed it shows that the download speed is actually proper

Download Speed Is Not What your connection speed is (eg 256 Kbps) in this case the download speed max will be 32kbps (256/8) .... thats how the download speed thing actually works

So guys clear this up before calling your connections slow

Alas! We have been shouting more or less the same. But to a layman, kbps naturally means kilobytes and not kilobits. So that is why many are anguished later.

Some newbies dont differentiate between chota b and bada B

The confuse kb/sec with KB/sec where 256kb/sec=32kB/sec and think there are both the same thing..

It would be great if we could get this info to every one as a lot of complaints we get here are a confusion rather then an actuall lack of speed.

There is no point in having a thread like this. People who dont know anything about "bits and bytes" are not going to search google on "bits and bytes". they shall always search with such phrases like "slower speed in ul 750" etc. .

Most isps don't even give the full bandwidth they promise.
With 256 kbps, max you get is around 28-29 KB/s

I dream about the day when the GRID system will be available for domestic use.
That would seriously rock !

Windows automatically reserves about 10% bandwidth for its own updation activities. So Windows system users get even lower bandwidth than their Opensource users, even with same plan & same ISP

So 256 kbps = 32 kBps > 90% > 28-29 kBps

NO no its not like that , QoS is rarely used by OS and it does not permanently reduce the speed of ur connection.

Infact this's a popular myth as documented in an article by microsoft...
