I am also having the same problem. I am directed to the same "track your usage page". I'm worried if it could be a virus. Have you found any solution, Fahabb?

    Unhappy fair usage policy

There is a fair usage policy that has been adapted by airtel lately. look at the tariffs which are revised and you will know, 1 mbps speed unlimited you would have a fair usage of 1 mbps only for 15gb and after you exceed 15gb you would just get a normal 256kbps speed for the rest of the month. pretty bad news but true. It is not a virus by the way.

    A few months later...

I am having this problem too. Sometimes it is really bad and I am unable to get anything but that horrible page. Two things about it...

    1. The information is wrong. It claims that I have free data up to 1 Gb, whereas I have free data up to 15Gb.

    2. It is absolutely spurious: I check my details on my Airtel online account page and find that I am at about 25% of my free level.

I've called support twice. The first time the best I got was to clear the cache and "don't worry about it, your bill be ok". Second time, they sent a guy round who re-configured my modem.

Until then, I find the following is a work around (Firefox/Ubuntu):

    1. take Firefox "work offline"
    2. Clear Cache
    3. Firefox back online.

Under Windows it might be necessary to clear the DNS cache.

Still not 100% sure that this routine is actually working, not coincidence... but I think so.

It is happening less, but it is not fixed. I'll get around to complaining again soon.

    And Today...

Annoyed by a lost forum post, I called 121 again. I was annoyed to be told that the call had been closed, and cuold not be reopened, but at least the person I spoke to was able to take all the details for a new report number without my having to tell it again.

I had a call from an Airtel engineer only an hour or so later. They told me that they had traced the problem to their "back end". He told me that a temporary fix had been put in place, so I should not see a recuurance, and that they would be working on a permanent fix.

Whilst it is a shame they could not sort this out on the first report (it has been over two months), I'm impressed with their response today.

    Results? we have to see...

To be honest the best way to deal with this data calculation thing is go with some unlimited plan and never have to worry about being over your monthly limit. I know its annoying having to pay for something you are not going to use but I suppose paying a few hundred rupees and using the net to your hearts content makes up for the extra money spent.

I suppose that I have to confess that I am, yes!

Have not been using my same name on other forums since then, but registered for this one a while back, and forgot!

With a FUP limit of 15GB, and a usual monthly usage of around 4 to 6 Gb, I never do have to worry about it. I have only once even come close to the 15, and that was the month I downloaded three Linux distros. Spurious error messages is a pain --- and one that seems to be fixed now: it hasn't happened again.

I did, however, have a few hours of continuous link dropping. The Airtel guy came and remade some corroded connections, much increasing the SNR. The modem reboots itself occasionally. Anyway, I have our local man's mobile number now.

Airtel service and support still beats BSNL, and the attitude of the engineers is so different. No more extended palms and disapointed looks at the result! Having said that, we still have the BSNL landline, and they have fixed the last two faults, with on-line fault reporting, without even coming here.

plzz help me what 2 do now.
Dial 121 and talk to support.

Do you use their portal for online payment, account management, etc? I recommend it, if only as an easy way to pay your bill, but your can also check your usage, or what they think your usage is, at any time: they call it "unbilled amount".

It would be very strange if only one Airtel customer (ie me) had this problem, I'm sure others must too. Call them! It took me two or three calls before getting the problem solved, but it worked out in the end. Remember, time only starts for them when you report it, so sooner the better. They work 24 hours: I was calling 2am, 3am...

    Hi guys,

I am using retention plan 649 of airtel. where speed is 512kbps and i was told at the time when this connection was given to me that there is no FUP on this plan.
but today while surfing i was redirected to this page...

when I called airtel, the CC executive told me that there is a FUP that if you download more than 10GB of data within 15 days, then your speed will become 256kbps. i asked her to disconnect my plan, and she transfered my call to retention department. the retention dept guy asked me why I want to disconnect my connection, i told that while giving me this plan I asked your executive whether there is any FUP applicable on this plan or not, and the executive said that there is no FUP on this plan then why my speed should be decreased. other service providers do not do such things. he said that its an order from TRAI to have an FUP on unlimited plans, so we cannot help. every service provider will have FUP in Unlimited plans.
    Is this true?

Guys beware and clarify everything before you ask for any plan!

Does MTNL Delhi also have FUP on their 599 unlimited plan?

The Retention dept. guy told me that even if other service provider do not have FUP on their plan, soon they will.

I was thinking of changing to MTNL, but want to make sure about any FUP in 599 unlimited plan.
