Default 1/2 Speed for Those Using 15gb+/Mo

Yes thats the news i got from calling AIrtel Customer Care 15minutes back when i noticed my Airtel speed cut in half... ofcourse the charge will still be the same.

    Bangalore, India

DOn't know if its all throughout India
'But 15gb in this day and age sucks too much to be true, but it is. I got capped now instead of the measily 28-30kBps, i am getting a 13kbps speed...

Get this in writing and log a complaint with consumer forum, they cant do this legally. Will also check if there is a mechanism in place to contact TRAI for customer redressal

Airtel is known to follow international policies. First they were the first ISP in India to introduce Sandvine throttling technique. Now they have started reducing the bandwidth of subscribers because they are *misusing* it ...

No company in India follows international standards, just google and you will find where the world is as far as bandwidth is concerned.

Airtel follows some standards by which they can reap max profits. Its like they choose whatever is convenient for them from a set of protocols followed by international ISPs. Such was the introduction of Sandvines hardware and now this speed reduction.

I remember Sunil Mittal saying on National TV,
"Bakri halal to hoga, lekin kistomein" when the tariff war started with the entrance of RIM.
He uses the same philosophy when dealing with customers. Use all possible means to dupe the customer and maximise profit. If the customer cries "foul", let him go to the court or whatever.

BSNL is already throttling torrent speeds, atleast for the older subscribers with 59.xx.xx.xx IP. Maybe they have also invested on this dreaded sandvine hardware. I pray they do not implement this half speed rule too.

    The restrictions are as follows
    128 kbps = download limit 10 gb
    256 kbps = 15 gb
    384 kbps = 20 gb
    512 kbps = 25 gb

I think that's not gonna happen for sometime, I don't think they profit much from it. Even if it's gonna happen, they might wait till they see Airtel's approach to the whole thing and then decide

Dont get too happy. BSNL is known to follow Airtel policies such as introducing Sandvine Hardware for throttling bittorrent downloads. Imagine having a cap on free night time !!!

Well its not implemented over BSNL yet.. and even if in future they planned to implement, it will take months.. At the moment its the Airtel which is in firing line.. I was never in favor of night time unlimited transfer given to Home 500 users.. so i wont mind if they stop giving them that free time altogether or if they cap data transfer. but unlimited plans should stay unlimited.

Not necessarily, If BSNL really gets to it, they can do it within months time. They just put their damn mind to .

What do you mean Night Time unlimited should be capped ?

I personally use 750UL but i am sure, a lot of users out use the 500 plan and use the night time unlimited. If they are gonna a limited plan then they will cap the UL first and then the limited one.
