Arrow Considering new Airtel connxn in Pune, bunch of queries

I'm moving to a new house on Senapati Bapat Road.. the place is under construction and the concealed wiring is pretty much done. Now I have to choose an ISP. I have a bunch of queries regarding this.

    1. Telephone lines have been laid internally, with a connection opening in the basement, so I just have to get the airtel telephone connection to get connected at that point right?

    2. A typical ADSL2 modem-wifi router will work with the service?

    3. I'm considering the 798 plan which has 512kbit b/w with 5gb cap for day use and night unlimited.

3.1 Is FUP applicable to this?
3.2 I just have to buy it for 798 initially and then do the 599 night unlimited recharge or what? How does the recharge system work out exactly?

I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions but I really need a new and better ISP than my current one, i.e. Hathway.. which sux REALLY hard.

    Thanks in advance!:16:

    1. If it is Airtel Phone DB ( distribution Box !)

Thanks for the info, on first two points, but..

Sorry to be blunt, but that did not help me at all.

I realise how FUP is working with airtel, i.e. half bandwidth, I'm just asking if its applicable under night unlimited plan, as in.. in the nights if I go on and on downloading, will there be an FUP limit to that? That's my question in 3.1

And then, I've seen the tariff page. It describes the 798-plan under "Broadband plans" and then the exact same info I found under "Broadband Topups" for "Surf 599 Night Unlimited" recharge. My question here is, Is it like I pay 798 for the first month and get the plan activated and from there on, every month I'll recharge with 599.. or what? How does it work exactly?

3.1 Night unlimited : NO limit.
FUP say limits you to Example ( not real) 10GB.
You can download at 512Kbps speed.
After that the speed will be reduced to 256 Kbps.

    4. "Top UP"
In TamilNadu i am on Combo 499. 1 GB 2mbps speed
Rs 200 worth free telephone calls. Cost Rs 499/ +taxes
As an old customer my " TOPUP" unlimited at 2 Mbps
    0900PM to 0800AM. cost Rs 99/= + taxes.
    Modem rent Nil.
As i do not d/l heavily, eve if the speed is reduced to
1024 Kbps the speed is OK for me.
You will not get this tariff plan.

Hope you got the TOP up idea.
YOU HAVE TO SELECT A bASIC PLAN + top up if needed.

Thanks for that, I was actually referring to the 599 recharge(one with 512kbit, 5gb and NU) and not 499(the one you pasted, 256kbit).. but I'm still not clear on this topup thing. What does a top up do really?

Basically, if I take 798 plan.. I'll have to pay 798 for the rest of my life.. or just the 1st time and then go on recharging?

Thanks again, You've been a lot of help.

Ok alright, so this 512kbit with NU just won't be applicable for my plan at all.. right? If that's correct, then I think i'm getting it.

Hope you got the TOP up idea.

I think I do.. sorry to bother again, but I don't want airtel's modem. I just want to buy one of those modem+wireless router ones. That'd work out okay right?

As long as you can configure the Wireless 4 Port Router on your own it should work without a problem .

    I live in Pune , ( Shastrinagar , Yerwada )

Airtel works really well in my area , ZERO downtime , but FUP sucks big time :31: , word is that FUP has been welcomed by almost all ISP's

These were the settings given to me by the engineer who came to configure the modem.

    Preferred DNS Server = 59.144.127.16
    Alternate DNS Server = 59.144.127.17

If you set this up manually in Local area connection > Properties > TCP/IP > Properties > just make sure that DHCP is enabled on your router or u wont be able to browse , otherwise just keep it both Obtain IP & DNS automatically checked and disable DHCP on the router .

This was just an FYI , not preaching , I am not trying to create a debate about turning on or off DHCP , that might just lead to opening up another thread :48:

You will have to check with Airtel. Call their customer care center.

Nana Peth is a congested part of the old city and I suspect that Airtel may not have their cables out there as yet. But then again, Airtel covers a fair portion of Pune Cantt, Rly. Stn. area, Swargate, etc. and hence you may be lucky.
