Airtel Launches 16 Mbps Broadband In India
Bharti Airtel has announced 16 Mbps broadband – which the company claims to be the fastest wireline broadband on DSL in the country. With 16 Mbps speed, consumers can download a 4 GB high-definition movie within 30 minutes compared with more than 12 hours that a 256 Kbps connection.
This service, powered by Airtel’s Carrier Ethernet Network, will be initially available in the cities of Delhi NCR, Chennai and Bengaluru with phased roll-out to additional cities of Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Customers can gain access to 16 Mbps broadband by choosing from two tariff plans – Speed Combo 2999 - receive 16 Mbps broadband speed with monthly data transfer limit of 20 GB along with a fixed line connection at Rs 2,999 per month; Speed Combo 4999 – receive 16 Mbps broadband speed with monthly data transfer limit of 50 GB along with a fixed line connection at Rs 4,999 per month.
They have two plans on offer:
- Rs. 2999 with a 20GB data transfer limit
- Rs. 4999 with a 50GB data transfer limit
This service is powered with company’s Carrier Ethernet Network.
It is currently available in limited regions in Delhi NCR, Chennai and Bangalore.
They are soon going to launch it in other areas like Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Currently, 8 Mbps broadband connection is only being offered to enterprises at Rs 1,299 for up to 4 GB of download in New Delhi. In India, the average broadband speed at present is 256 Kbps while in countries such as France and Korea, this is in excess of 16 Mbps.
