Default ADSL2 connection using Bridge mode

Hello Everybody,

This is my first post, so if any mistakes or wrong category posting please bare with me...

I wanted to know about obtaining Bridge mode Net connection for multiple PC's using ADSL2 connection for Internet.

Hardware
1. CPE Modem/Router (supplied by ISP)
2. Switch (eg. 8 port with uplink)
3. Multiple PC's with Ethernet Adopters

Few solutions I know for obtaining Net access using the above hardware
1. With ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) or Proxy. Here I can use the Bridge mode of Modem/Router using Dial Up PPPoE connection, but for this I need to keep 1 PC always on for others to browse or access Net, which I dont want to.
2. With Modem/Router NAT(Network Address Translation) PPPoE. Here I configure NAT setting in Modem/Router and all the PC's connected through Switch have Net access, which is always on. As a security point of view I don't want all the PC's to be expose to Net 24x7 and even I dont want to manually power on and off Modem/Router to access Net. Security can be taken care with Firewalls but I dont want to invest into that, thou I know there are many free personal Firewalls but I don't trust on them, even built in Firewall into Modem/Router are very basic supplied by ISP's.
3. With Modem/Router Bridge mode using any dialers. This is my choice I have full control on Net access using Dial Up as and when required, but the problem here is I can access Net only with single PC at a time as the WAN IP is restricted to only 1 IP per Modem/Router by the ISP, so can't make multiple Dial Ups from different PC's.

There are many other options also for obtaining Net access having 2 NIC's into one PC and Bridging them for WAN link or through GP (Group Policies) controlling access to Net for users, but all this involves 1 PC to be on for others to access Net be it Client Server or Peer-to-Peer.

My question is I want each and every PC has their own Dial Up or Connection Control for accessing Net as and when required using Peer-to-Peer not Client Sever technology, as I don't want any PC to be a Server and be on for Net access. So, I was looking for the solution for it for Windows platform. maybe IP Masquerading, Bridging, etc using ADSL2 as WAN link.

I hope I am clear with my question and anybody's help will be appreciated

Thank You!

The solution no2 you have listed there if you use that with avg which is free and is considered better then many which come with a price.

I dont understand how you can run a pc without a firewall and an antivirus running on it its just inviting attacks in my openion.

Well my basic question was, I want to connect to Net with multiple PC's using ADSL2 Bridge mode and not ADSL2 NAT, and even in Bridge mode I dont want to do that using ICS or Proxy for that 1 PC is dedicated. Firewalls, Antivirus, Spywares are optional but obviously I will be using them even in Bridge mode. Why I said that I dont want to invest into Firewalls, is as in NAT its always on connection and it requires a good Firewall for that and other personal Firewalls are OK kinda.. good for home PC but not good enough for always on connection... anyways my concern here for security depands on type of connection for NAT requires good Firewall and for eg. Dial Up personal Firewall will do.

My requirement is each PC should have their own connection control for making connection to Net using ADSL2 be it Dial Up or any other form. I was also looking into the option of RASPPPoE its a protocol for having PPP over Ethernet, thou it has a option of multiple WAN links but its does'nt works for multiple PC's I guess, since I tried it but could'nt work for me.

Thank You!

I dont understand your concern about always on connection.
there is no difference wether you run your pc 1 hour or 24 hours a day you still need same kind of security.

I have got 3 pc's and two internet connections, one is a 10mbps cable connection and one is an adsl 8mbps connection and the 10meg cable connection is used to push torrents on one of my sites and I think its been running non stop for 4-5 months now never even rebooted it. The adsl connection is what i normally use to do my daily maintance work and I only reboot it every 10-15 days or so when I feel its gone a bit sluggish.
both the pc's are assembled and have got the best hardware available. Both the pc's have got refrigation kits in them to keep them cool and the third pc I use for all my back ups for websites to keep a safe copy every week or so.

Security? One pc has zone alarm and norton antivirus and the second one has got avg free version and the third one doesnt have anything coz it doesnt connect to the net directly.Just keep your auto updates on and you will be fine.

I have got avg on my laptop aswell which normally connects to unsecured connections at hotspots which are very prone to attacks and avg is just doing fine.

There is no difference between a dialup and a always on connection as you call it when it comes to getting infected.

Well its seems my framing of question is not clear, let me put it again leaving everything aside.

Lets suppose a scenario like this I have 8 PC's connected through Switch and Net access through ADSL2.

Now I want each and every PC to access Net having their own PPPoE Dial Up or Connection control as and when required not depanding on any other PC. I dont want to use Modem/Router NAT mode it should be Bridge mode. Is such type of connection possible! if yes how?

I have understood your question now.

If I was you I would get some guy to assemble a box for about 3000-4000 rs with no graphic card or cd roms or anything just to keep it running for the network and I am sure it will not cost more then rs5000
set up a home network and set it up for auto dialing at start up and once you turn the power on your internet should be available to all the comps its connected to instantly.

If this isint of any interest to you I would say hands up on your idea of every comp being able to use the modem to dial up using adsl modem coz if more then one comp is on and you use a usb hub to connect every comp to the modem then its gonna create a hardware conflict regardless of whatever you use (as far as I know may be there is a way out but I dont know of any)

All in all my hands are up for this one I cant think of any solution except of the one I have mentioned in the begning of this post and that should save you a lot of money which you would have spent buying switches and cables and stuff. using fraction of that money just get a small box assembled by some one who knows a bit of networking so the config is just right for the kind of work its gonna be doing.

mmm any more inputs?

Well Bro

Again you are diverting me to a solution which I dont want a dedicated PC to authorize or act as Proxy for others to access Net.

Bro instead of making a cheap option or dialing Terminal and wasting time, resource and money on that, the same I can achieve by configuring the NAT mode build in into Modem/Router configure it that way and have Net access to all PC's connected to Switch/Hub. And as far as Networking is concern I guess I knew it well and can do more complex networking then just making basic ADSL2 home networking.

I am looking for a different possibility as stated into my question, anyways Thanks for your help and concern
