Default Never Use Airtel. Worst Service Provider

I have had airtel for about 8 months now and everytime I had a complaint with the connection, I called up the customer care and they could never resolve my issues. They would commit that they would send the engineer to fix up the issue but they didn't even bother to call ever after that call of mine. Up until today they have never resolved even one of my issues. AIRTEL IS A TOTAL PIECE OF ****. Finally I gave up on them and wrote this mail to get my connection cancelled. Their documents say that cancellatioin will take 3 business days but when I called up to enquire about the same, they said it will take 30 days. I had sent the mail of Sep 27th 2006 and today is Oct 26th 2006. 30 days are over but when I called up in the morning, they told me it will still take 30 days. BLOODY ASSHOLES. I have not been using my connection for past 30 days because they seized the service but they have billed me for close to 800 Rs this month. I am now planning to pull airtel to consumer court for this mental harrasment. See the content of my mail that I had sent for cancellation. After I had sent this mail, I received a call from their top escalation department, (so called applete) Ms. Monika Ohson, and then Vice President, Customer Care Mr. P.D. Sharma. They couldn't do anything about my issue. AIRTEL IS A CRAP. I have intentionally crossed out the cheque no below.:

    Hello Airtel,

I don't even have the words to express how good you guys are. I have had my internet(DSL) connection for a couple of months now. I can't even remember how many times I had to call up to get my connection
fixed up for one issue or the other. Never could you fix even one of my issues to my satisfaction. Forget satisfaction, you didn't even bother to fix the issues at all at many instances. You see, you guys are this good.

A recent complaint I logged on August 1st'2006 (complaint number 1738040) regarding my modem. You guys tried fixing it up over the phone but your technical experts couldn't do it. Eventually, they asked me to wait for a day so that an engineer could visit my house to fix this. Today, two months after the day I logged it, not even one person from airtel has visited my house to fix it. I called up around 10 times to remind you that I have a complaint pending with you guys regarding my modem. Everytime, you guys would ask me to wait until that engineer of yours would visit me and fix it. This so called engineer of yours never bothered to visit me except speaking with me over phone a few times. He would commit to visit my house every single time I spoke to him. On one instance I had to come real early from office just because the engineer wanted to come over and fix the issue. I kept waiting for more than 3 hours just for him and he didn't bother to turn up. Today, after two months, I am still waiting for him to visit me. I didn't pay my bill for august because you guys didn't fix my issue. Now you have disconnected my services for non-payment of bill. I wish there was someone who could disconnect airtel from this planet for no-response to customer issues with your product. I have now decided to disconnect airtel from my life for good.

In the past, I had to ask for a manager on every single complaint (be it connection problem, slow speed or billing. Mind it, you guys offer these problems free to every single customer using your connection.) and I would be told that I had to talk to Mr. Gurmeet Dua (manager in gurgaon). The executive would tell me that they would have the manager call me regarding this issue. However, I never received a call from this manager of yours. Infact, I called him a couple of times and he would tell me "I am busy in a meeting", " I am busy right now", "I will call you later", " This is not the time to call me, can you call me later", things like this you see. I can't understand who appointed this person as a manager ? He doesn't even know the office meetings he is attending are being funded by customer's money. If their won't be any customer, their won't be any meetings for him to attend. He wouldn't be busy if there were no customers to airtel. He is the most careless and arrogant person in airtel, I came across.

On 14/06/2006, (complaint 802921 against another complaint number 672489) one of your executives, aashish bhatia, commited that he would have the manager (gurmeet dua) call me for my complaint because he felt that my issue was beyond his control. Next day i.e. on 15/06/2006, nidhi bahel called up on behalf of Mr gurmeet claiming that she is a manager with the dsl department and commited a little monetary waiver (from June 7th to June 14th) for the poor services you guys had been providing. After a few days on june 23' 2006, I called up at 7.54PM and was told that a manager would call me back because the executive couldn't handle my issue. Shweta arora (another manager) called up at 8.15PM from 0120-4367236) to tell me that waiver can't be granted because it was committed by an executive not a manger. "Who the hell is nidhi bahel to give you a waiver" were the exact words used her (so called MANAGER). I had to talk to this manager for over 15 minutes for this pity thing. She gave me another complaint number 955609 for the same. One more complaint number for you guys... 823042. I can't even tell you the number of complaint numbers I have lying pending regarding you guys.

You see, airtel is the best customer service provider. Dealing with airtel is a mental harrasment. I have gone through it and am sure lot of people would have had their share.

I AM TIRED OF DEALING WITH AIRTEL, THEIR SO CALLED MANAGERS (remember gurmeet dua ? and others ?) AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. It's so pathetic that I have finally given up. I vow never to use airtel in my lifetime whatever and however mouth watering your product is. And I promise to forward this mail throughout whole of india using chain mails. I will post my experience with airtel on every single website I come across. People should know and realize HOW WORST AIRTEL IS.

I wish some of the leading newspapers in the country could print it and let the common man know about the reality of airtel.

This is to formally tell you that I have dropped a cheque (No - ######) of Rs 2000 today at one of airtel collection boxes to clear whatever outstanding I have against you; and I hereby request you to take your dsl connection off of my premises as soon as possible and refind any excess amount that I have paid. Complaint number for cancellation 3087483 logged on 27/09/2006.

    Regards,
    Ritesh.

Question Is AirTel on the Up and Up?

Airtel blames an earthquake damage to the undersea link for the drop in the connection speed.
Does other ISPs also have this problem or is it unique to Airtel?

Its a surprise for me that airtel guys have been so ignorant towards you so I have just sent Airtel broadband customer service department an e-mail inviting them here on this forum to sort out this problem and to be honest I truly believe that some one from thier end will come here to respond this this thread.

Tommorow is monday so the normal admin staff should be in at 9am Hope some one comes and responds...

    Waiting....

Here is the e-mail ive just sent to Airtel

E-mail addresses which i sent it to:
    care.ncr@airtelbroadband.in

Subject :**Urgent** response required for a customer complaint

    Hi,

I am the Webmaster of www.indiabroadband.net which is a public platform to discuss about isp's in India and Airtel being one of them has a seperate section for issues related to Airtel broadband services.

The reason I am writing this mail is that a new member at our forum has psted a massive complaint against Airtel and Me personally being a big fan of all airtel servies dont really like the situation as my forum is visited by more then 3000 people from across India and that thread is causing Airtel a huge embarasment as far as my opinion goes.

The complaint is displayed at this page : http://www.indiabroadband.net/airtel...-provider.html

I would highly appreciate if some one from your end can come to the forum and address this problem in public so every one knows that the issue was settled amicably or otherwise.

    Kind Regards

Question I totall agree with this ....!!

Below is a mail that i just wrote to airtel customer care: care.ap@airteltelephone.com

    Hi,
I opted the new airtel broadband connection (Value 498 plan) from last week.

From the first day onwards, i am facing a problem with the airtel network. I am not able to connect with the internet. I called the customer care for more than 4 times. They sent one technical person, who wasted his as well as mine 2 complete days, and still he is not able to solve the issue. He is not even able to identify the cause of the issue. He was doing trial and error to solve the problem, which i don't like. Initial he told me that there is something wrong with modem as they are using new modem (UTSTARCOM Company). He replaced the existing modem with new one of the same brand, which was helpless effort. Then he told there is something wrong with cable and changed the cable, which is also waste of time. Then he told that there is problem with internal house wiring. I spent my 150 Rs to make sure that wiring is correct. Then that technical fellow brought new wire as he had a doubt that internal wiring is not proper. With his new wire connection, he was not able to solve the issue. Then he told me that there is an issue with Server Port connection. I complained about all these thing to customer care and they told that they are sending DSL engineer on 2 days back. I am still waiting for that engineer, who didn't come yet.

I don't know whether Airtel have proper technical staff to rectify the issue or not, but now onwards i am going to close the airtel connection as i wasted my more than 2 days. This is the worst service i have ever faced in my life and this is may be the big mistake to opt for this service. When i called to customer care regarding all these, then they said today (15 January, 2007) is a holiday and so no one is present to solve the issue, they will send someone on tomorrow. I don't know whether holiday is more important for Airtel or customer ?

This is the issue not only with me, there are so many people who have complain against airtel broadband service. You can see the people response at:
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/airtel...-provider.html

Hope they will see this forum, so they can have idea how many ppl are not satisfied with Airtel service ...!!
    Cheers,
    JM

looks like airtel people have put their foot in too many things, that its hard for them to control all.
I have an unlimited 256kbps airtel connection(plan 999), but the problem is that i get only a meagre 128kbps throughout the day, only at night does it go upto 384kbps.
I have used BSNL also and still think its much better than airtel as they provide constant speed of 256kbps throughout the day and it only costs rs900, while airtel being rs. 999. I agree to the fact that airtel response time and troubleshooting is much better than bsnl. But ultimately its all about speed.
I just hope airtel announces some increment in the bandwidth for the same tariff or reduces the tariff or atleast give a constant 256kbps thru out the day(wud be happy even wid that).
I am getting frustated with my airtel as each passing day goes by, soon if they dont do something decent enough, i am gonna change over to some other service.

Default Airtel Poor issue Resolution time

Although Airtel gives good bandwidth, but their issue resolution time was always a problem. We are using Airtel DSL since last 5 years whenever face any issue with DSL, the issue resoultion was always a pain.
It takes too much efforts calling their call center and following up with the complain id, and getting new complain ids, interaction with their so called technical as well as managers.

This DSL connection is very risky for an organisation that doesn't have back up internet connection. As if Airtel DSL gets down then mininum resolution time is 4 days that goes till 7 days. That is suffecient to ruin your operations.

This is a basic problem in India - no customer service; and Airtel is not the only culprit.

    I totally sympathise with jr.ritesh.

Ritesh, you should file a case in consumer court for "Non provision of services and Mental Harassment".

I am using 256kbps connection for 750 Rs. the connection is pathetic. half the times the link and data itself does work. and i am not able to connect itself. i do not know as to how things can be so bad when they are taking so much money.

address: Madinaguda, Miyapur. if there are any any airtel providers reading this, please do the necessary, because there is a general opinion even in my company now that airtel is going from bad to worse. if i see that my connection problems are not fixed, i would ofcourse discontinue this and go for a better service provider.

i was using tata indicom before, and i never had a problem.

i am posting the same crib in all threads since i want some airtel provider personnel to see it.

Airtel, Reliance, etc. are focusing on two types of customers - corporates and large/new apartment complexes where they can get bulk connections. Most of the time their network works and they are not too bothered if one or two clients (small flies) suffer.

BSNL is also not very great in terms of customer service (although I have had no reasons to complain so far).

We are yet to inculcate the American way of things where customer is treated like a king. We will get there ...

    Default AIRTEL....the biggest thief....

i have been using airtle from past 6 months..what i have come to know is that the billing is faulty in airtel..the call charges are not competitive as with other operators and they have hidden charges in their plans..

i had been using home 699 unilimited 128K connection, on which std call rate is 2.2 per min...and similar in BSNL...their all STD is 1 per min....thats the difference
another...differnce is that Airtel ISD call rates are too high...they charges on per minute basis ..whereas BSNL charges on Pulse basis ie 10 pulse....this was the difference in Airtel combo plan & bsnl combo plans...
Airtel....has hidden charges in call rates if u have broadband connection...make sure u check...

    My dear friend
Here they are discussing abt broadband connection speed and not std and hidden charges. But I do agree wid U abt the charges. Airtel always has been famous for deceiving their customers (especially mobile) for fleecing money. In our words they are chariyaas.... lets forget them....
please tell me.... how do U think is the speed that u are getting for downloads/uploads etc. ? Are U happy with it ?

    Default hi

hi everyone im new to this forum

Tataindicom Broadband till i disconnected arround 160 complaints used it for 1.5 yrs
IQRA - U telcom broadband for 1 -yr poor speed they keep calling me once a week after getting it disconnected

Unhappy If not Airtel which is better

I'm scared to hear the services of Airtel. I'm in USA and planning to come to India on vacation but also work from there for some time. Does'nt looks like India is what I keep hearing. We Indians make ultimate software for mainly the clients in the USA and ourselves don't have proper technology support in our country. What the hek you people boast of hi-tech in India. In fact I was surprised to see so many mobile phones in India but ashamed to see people carrying so dirty mobile sets. I'm not saying that India has not advanced but please don't boast off in front of people from USA at least. This country really uses the technology. In India we only boast of having everything but WHO has them... only a few %.
Well, leave all that and tell me which is the best of all connection so that I can work from there. I'm not comparing the 12MBPS unlimited access line here and there is no cost factor.
Hope someone can let me know.

    Thanks,
    AKhilesh

    Hii AKhilesh,

In my opinion Airtel broadband is still by far the best ISP here in India from what I have heard and experienced. You may have read a lot of threads from people complaining about one thing or the other but You would never see a thread from some one who is happy with his or her connection and the reason is that they are using the net for what they got it for and would never come to this forum unless they start getting some trouble.

I can assure you that although airtel broadband is not very good as compared to international standards but when you compare it with other isp's customer service and other factors airtel is a clear winner.

PS: I dont have an airtel broadband connection, I use a sify broadband connection and a reliance data card and airtel data card for back up. Airtel broadband is not available where I live else I would have got a connection from them.

    Thanks.

@imakhilesh, What is this big deal about carrying savvy mobile phones? I carry Nokia 1110 and quite happy with it. Does carrying flashy handset make you advanced? In my opinion it is just bragging and showing off.

You know guys, in new markets to establish themselves in new cities like thane the same airtel guys serve a complaint within 4 hours.

This is litrally because they want to increase there customer base in Thane , but once they make enough money and monopolise, there service will get worst ass you can see in above posts.

Same is with other bharti / airtel services.
    They should be black listed

I have had an Airtel broadband connection for the last 6 years and I can tell you that they are the best service provider in India by a mile. I am extremely happy with their services and words cant express how happy I am with their connection. My experience so far:
    1. You get speeds as promised to you in the plan.
    2. I have never seen any downtime in the last 6 years.
    3. Excellent customer care and problems get resolved within a few hours.
    4. Plans for everyone based on their needs.

    What else do you need?

I totally go by the the above statement.

Although I am a very new user for Airtel Broadband I feel they are pretty ahead of their other counterparts such as TataIndicom,Reliance,BSNL etc(I won't even Sify in this list, they don't deserve to be here) in terms of Service and support both.
I think Bharti have been trend setters in India. If service is concerned they are far better than others that why I have Airtel Post Paid ,Prepaid,Land line and Broadband.

In 750/- they are providing 256 kbps unlimited connection which really stands by its promise of providing the said speed, not like other providers which promise a lot,but provide nothing. The have provided wireless modem too so that I can simultaneously connect both my Desktop and Laptop. The connection is always on,what else you need.

So the point I wanna make is good or bad everything is relative. In the circumstances and infrastructure in India Airtel is better than other,is what I feel.If you are abusing them you might not have tried others at all.

Cool Airtel Sucks - Total Piece of **** - Never in this lifetime

Here is a self explanatory email that I sent as a last resort. After this email, my mobile has been disconnected, as expected by me.

    ------------

    Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to bring to your attention a problem I am facing since 12th April, 2008.

On 11th April, 2008, I activated GPRS on my mobile because I had to travel to Gujarat for a week. It was activated instantly. However, after repeated sms/calling 121, I did not get the settings for my Imate SPL mobile. Infact my mobile was blocked for calling 121 and I was advised that I should contact only through SMS which will be replied in 24 hours.

After searching on the internet, finally I found the settings on 12th April, 2008 when I was in Ahmedabad. However, the speed was so poor/pathetic that immediately I sent an SMS to deactivate my GPRS. However, I got error “FAILURE TO DEACTIVATE SERVICE. PLEASE TRY LATER.” When I called 121, I was told that since my mobile was from Bombay, I have to call a Bombay number 9892098920 to deactivate the same.

Instantly I called that number and the executive took my complaint. However, when I found that my money was being deducted for the next two days, I sent an email on 15th April, 2008.

After that, I have been continuously calling helpline 121, sending emails, have personally visited your Kandivli relationship centre but my problem still continues.

Everyday Rs.14.99 is being deducted from my mobile. I did get refund a few times but what about my time that is being wasted in calling everyday to your 121 and giving my complaint.

I believe now each and every executive at your Mindspace office knows my voice. Till date, almost each and everyone has assured me that ‘YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED IN 2 HRS., IN 6 HRS., IN 24 HRS’ etc. but nothing has been done. One particular gentleman Mr.Sheetal Mohite asked me to personally call him and check about the status of my complaint but after that he was not approachable. Once, I was informed that he is not available but he will call me back. Till date nobody has called back.

A few times, some people called me from Airtel saying that they are calling from the head office and also refunded my money and said ‘YOUR PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED’.

Also, I keep getting messages that ‘YOUR PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED’ and ‘YOUR MONEY IS BEING REFUNDED’ but these are only SMS, I didn’t get money whenever I got SMS but a few times I did get money refund but without any SMS.

Why does it take 50 days to solve this simple problem?

I would have simply discontinued this pathetic service but the problem is I have just printed 10,000 brochures and 1,000 visiting cards and have got the number on a lot of my websites.

Please solve this problem at the earliest because I don’t have any other options but to keep calling 121 and keep posting to various consumer centres/public interest blogs/reviews on the internet about Airtel.

A general search on “airtel sucks” on Google would bring a lot of them. Anyway, there are thousands of complaints already and I don’t think another addition makes any difference.

I wish I could get Shahrukh Khan’s email to just check from him why he goes “ga-ga” in ads over this rubbish service.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Mustafa K.

Here is an example of their service, costumer care says its normal speed but look at the difference b/w upload and download. I am using 512 kb/sec plan. Do you guys also get so slow upload rate, i dont think its ''normal'' cause i was getting about 200-300 kb/sec earlier.

I am using Airtel broadband services for the past 1 year(before that i was using woeful tata indicom)
IMHO no Internet service provider in india (barring Airtel) has got such a wonderful Customer Service & Network Quality with rare and minimal Downtime.

guys i totally agree airtel is the best telecom provider in the country.....other providers will only come second to it.....none can beat......i hv airtel at home n their customer problem resolution time is the least in all providers....plus the fact being fast servicing n cost effectiveness...

the fact tht its INDIA n some or the problems shud come up now or then due to the hostile conditions cannot be a reson for hating it....

These Aitrel customer care people are good with attending only certain type of problems.. They are so 'bookish'. There is not any experienced trouble-shooter in their department. I have been telling them that I get frequent disconnection and receiving low bandwidth.. they come to my place take a look and leave, saying that they will check from their end and get back to me... but they will not because they dont know what is causing this problem... after a couple of days they will close the ticket and that's it.. Next time you call them they will open a new ticket and this will go on and on.. ultimately you will still be left with the problem.

    Angry Pathetic CS

Well Airtel has just qualified for a status with Bsnl. Had done a shift transfer of the phone. During the call had mentioned that DSL needs to be activated. The CS guy gave me a date of 5 days and said both will be done. After 3 days this guy shows up at my house, so i had leave work and go home. Apparently he had come to check the wiring. He told me the internet people will be coming the next day. For 2 days no progress. Called them up, they said it will be done by the next day. Next day called them up the CS girl Meenakshi tells me, well they have passes on the request to the concerned department and they will get to it when they can. After 4 calls the person finally shows up. He calls me up and said the connection is working. I asked him if the internet was working. He said it is but they don't have the laptop. So I drove home to find out that they have just done the landine. So i talked to the cs again who refred it to their mgr. She said that a form had to be filled so they are sending the form and it will be done soon. after a lot of pow wow they agreed tol have it installed definitely by 10:30 am the next day. waited waited no person shows up. The mgr said oh it will be done by 2pm. Its 6:10 right now and nothing done. I've left early from my office twice and came late once. Pathetic, Pathetic, Pathetic CS.

    Thumbs down Nonsence

It Seems that Mr.Manishbhai is a relative of Mr. Sunil Mittal. That is the reason he is telling Airtel is the best among all in INDIA. And more over he had gone to such extent prasing Airtel that people should be lucky enough to get an Airtel connection. Mere nonsence. It also seems that he never used Airtel internet service, otherwise he will never says this. If he really used it he will definetly forget his relationship with Mr. Sunil Mittal and will start abusing him. In India and especially with Airtel Customer Care is just a part of the system, but it never cares it customers. A guy is crying about his loss and some body is praiseing the the person who caused it.

Their technical/customer service report is excellent & hardly there has been a downtime if i remember. (just 1nce

in 6 mths & that to they do a maintainence on their servers & that to @ night only for 2-4 hrs).
I wish they had their wide presence in mumbai (which is still limited now to some business areas only), so that

they gave a tough competition to the monopolised MTNL in DSL BB technology service & also to other ISPs in mumbai.

    Default Doesn't seems true

    Dear Rubalsher,
Ok, very fine. if every thing is goning fine with you with Airtel then you should never call the customer care. But on the other end you are praising the customer care, not at all matching. In six years you had never seen any downtime, is it really possible
    .

    Hi,

Regarding the service, I always like(d) Airtel. I've been using it for about 6 months until now.

Two months back, due to some unknown reasons, both the modem and power adapter failed. Airtel service representative replaced both with no fee at all.

There are some other incidences where Airtel was always responsive to my queries.

When I dial the Airtel Customer Care number , I ask to speak directly with the Technical Team cause they know what you are talking about most of the times. I find Airtel Broadband far better than any other service I have used before that includes BSNL , Reliance , Sify , Tata , Exattnet. Their connection has not let me down as yet , yes there is no perfect ISP in India or anywhere else , but lets face it , We are still playing with limited connections on ADSL up to 2 Mbps when people outside India have 10/100/1000 Mbps fiber optic cables .

But what about the mental problems that I went through at that time?

Regarding Airtel broadband I won't comment anything as I am yet to experience it. But from what I've seen and heard, Airtel is the best ISP in India in terms of customer satisfaction, speed and customer care.

According to the Poll results, most of the people are saying that they love Airtel. So, that's it! :surrender:

After the harrowing experience with Tata Indicom, Airtel was an amazing experience for me.
For me, it has been a pleasant experience with issues resolved really fast(within a day at the max).I am from chennai btw.
Maybe the area also makes a difference.

I totally disagree that airtel is worst service provider. I am using Airtel broadband from last 1 year and i have not faced a single breakdown till now. customer care is so responsive. Due to construction in my house the cable was accidentally cut from me and i called up Airtel and in less than an hour line man was at my home and without asking any questions they changed the entire cable from Box to my house. this was the only 1 time i called airtel for any complaint.
And by the way exceptions are everywhere that the creator of this thread faced this type of problem.

    Thanks.

Whats your point? If I see another post like this one I will ban you from entering this forum for ever... we don't need people who hate India or Indians here on this forum... why even come to India? stay where you are and stick a nice new and clean mobile phone up yours.. for that sake... Hope this helps...

India is doing very well and I and sure you will migrate to India in the next 10-15 years and start saying the same thing about America given the state of the economy there and the upcoming recession... Am I right or wrong?

    Default Airtel SUCKZ

Guys i used had an airtels connection through an Agent now first i was charged of a few idiotic services which i thoroughly didn't need (Like PC Secure..and the buggers charged me for that too) then I had to shift my room for a few resons and i asked customer care they said they would charge me 500 bucks for that (or 300 i 4got the exact amount) the agent said he would get it done with out charge at the time of connection. So i called him he said to send a mail with my address to be transfered and he said that a guy would come to talk the phone and modem which didnt happen then i called the guy many time s he got frustrated and VERY RUDLY asked me to talk to customer care, On doing that for about 15 days even after me shifting they kept saying that there is no application of transfer. I got frusatrated called the guy yelled at him. and decided not to use Airtel. got shifted to BSNL( and amazingly they are funny themselves will tell about it later) then after one and a half month or more i get a call from airtel that my application has been done and i have to pay may due bill which is about 1200/- (wonder how coz i have a deposit of 800 ) and all. i denied paying it or getting the phone to be transfered those f**king guyz used my bill and called all the ppl i have called and kept asking them about me and my bill how the F**k can they do that

    Default Great Service Provider

I my opinion airtel is probably the best service provider in country. I have been using airtel BB for past three years and hav no major complain against them.

Its not that i dont hav problem, some times line gets disconnected or they have some problem during the monsoons but they respond quickest possible time. I even got engineers getting repairs done in less than 1/2 hrs to 1 hrs. some times after registering complaint on 121. Generally 3 - 5 hrs.

Definately they hav some silly engineers / technician which many a times don know how to correctly configure a modem but still get it corrected by there senior staff as early as possible.

I stay in Gurgaon may be in other areas they may be providing worst service but not in Gurgaon.

There competetors are pathetic and worst possible, I had a connection with Tata Indicom they harass customers worse than BSNL/MTNL even 1 week before due date they disconnect phone for not paying bill after complaining they will apologise and correct it but again do same thing next month. There internet is worst possible, some people say its good but only for areas having VSNL direct line ( Tata Indicom ).

BSNL has an excellent broadband connection free of troubles but when troubles comes ur are not relieved before a week. Getting a new connection from BSNL is like winning a war scenario, and if ur line gets some problem or ur phone is dead, there technician dont turn up before a week or if turn up they are most of the not able to correct trouble before at least 2 -3 days AT LEAST THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH AIRTEL THEY CORRECT TROUBLES IN LESS THAN 4 HRS AND I HAV BEEN EXPERINCING THIS SERVICE FROM PAST 3 YRs

In case of GPRS I would say it worst possible technology u are never able to get above 40 - 50 kbps speed with ur phone or max 80 - 90 kbps with USB modem which is because of technological trouble in this case Reliance Data card is much better because of CDMA technology.

Ok so I have used the following broadband providers

    Sify ( Cable )
    Exattnet ( Cable )
    Reliance ( WiMax )
    BSNL ( ADSL )
    Airtel. ( ADSL )

I have been a subscriber of each ISP for upwards of 6 months and some even beyone 1 year .

In my experience with the above mentioned ISPs Airtel has given me between 95 to 99% uptime [ that's what really matters ] and the speed has always been more than promised in short, Airtel as an ISP has always been over and above my expectations , Finally , FINALLY !!! , I have found an ISP that I am going to stick with .

    1st Rule of thumb

When looking for an ISP , consider the following in the order mentioned below

    1) Uptime
    2) Customer Service / Tech Support
    3) Price

    2nd Rule of thumb

    1) Never ever ever go for a limited plan , what's the point of having a pack where you get 2 Mbps but have a 2 / 4 GB bandwidth cap , you are bound to download more with the high speeds i.e. stick to unlimited plans .

    2) When ISPs refer to Download limit this includes total data traffic to your machine , [ downloads + uploads + surfing + watching videos on youtube etc etc ] I have seen many people shocked when they get bills of Rs20,000 saying that I didnt download anything , I only used to watch movies online !!!
, again I cant stress more on the fact that unlimited plans are the way to go !!!

Well then again if your requirement is high uptime and good download speed , Airtel Zindabaad , look at the poles you will understand .

Varied providers have different QOS in different parts of the country. So if an ISP rocks for u, it just rocks for u (ok maybe in the locality too). My advice would u do some proper homework in the form of consulting neighbors regarding QOS and then delve for a connection.

I totally agree with Jakemake... the best explaination so far....yes thats what U get from airtel... uptime, service and cost effectiveness. Airtel offers unlimited d/l plans with speeds more than expected. Tech support is kewl and prompt....even the guys sound enthusiastic even if at 2.00 am. And on top the upload download ratio (1:4) is perfectly maintained and they also tell you things honestly.
I would give airtel 9 out of 10 , the one is for their Speed On Demand Service... which never works for me somehow....the site does not support Firefox.... and after each hour you have to choose whether U wanna continue or no... and if you are away for some reason the speed comes down to your regular and then to get back to extra speed it takes ages to connect to the server....of course that is good incase you just wanna use the service for 1 or 2 hoursand do not wanna get charged without your authorisation but... they should have provided and option to stay connected for more than an hour... maybe durations of 4 hours and 12 hours anybody else not wanting to use the same could choose the hourly option..... other than this I think Airtel is upto mark... keep up the good work mates
    Cheers
    Cheers ;)

    Warm Regards
