For those who have Airtel Broadband you can check your broadband speed test from their site itself, by going to the following link on the Airtel site:

In order for you to be able to check the speed of your internet you need to have Java installed.

Not restricted to Airtel ISP , I think. I had used it.
Will test later with BSNL BB and update.
The reading at this link, will not use much B/w like speedtest.net
