1.Were you connected to Airtel BB/or RHEL4 earlier in Dialer (wanminport) or
    "Always On" PPPoE mode ?
    2.What is RHEL4 ?

For reference Not for same modem
    UT-300R2 ADSL MODEM MENU

    Thanks for your reply .

I am already browsing the net from Windows XP . The Airtel people (they dont know actually ) out here were not able to configure the internet in Red Hat Linux release 4 (RHEL 4) which was my primary requirement . Sorry i dont know about Dialer (wamniport) or "Always On" PPPoE mode. Please guide me in this regard if i need to setup something .

I tried configuring my ethernet from the GUI prompt but in vain since it is asking details such as adapter name ( like 3CCOM 3C5.. & some ethernet adapters name ), IRQ and so on which i am not familiar with.

Please let me know how should I proceed .

    Since you have XP
    START/RUN type cmd OK
    New window
type ipconfig /all ( note space after ipconfg)
Note down the data. wll be useful for
    settings in LINUX mode.

    Para two :
I am using only XP PRO SP3.
( No need/ necessity to upgrade to VISTA or Windows 7)
    I don't know anything about other OS's.
My ignorance of LINUX is 100% !!!

    Para two:
Please see this link for any clue/s

From Google search : RHEL4 network settings.
    http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4
    -Manual/sysadmin-guide/ch-network-config.html

.I feel in modem ,there is no change in settings.

    Question

Thanks for the input . But I am still facing problem while configuring the ethernet . When I try to configure the ethernet ( before configuring the xdsl connection from the system settings--> network ) it is prompting for the adapter type ( and the list of values include like 3com 3c51,Intel , Gexpresss and so on.. along one indeed ) . If i choose the 3com 3c51 ( first in the list ) and proceed further it says (/sbin/modprobe device not found . Error Initializing the device ) . My questions are

    1. Am i on the right track of configuring the modem ( beetel adsl2 110tc1 router )
    2. Which adapter to choose or what changes to make when trying to configure the ethernet .

    Thanks in advance

Check the lan adapter name with XP OS in TCP/IP properties.
    May be realtek etc.
