Default Problem after migrating to Unlimited Plan -749

    Hi All,
I have some queries regarding Braodband and Airtel Broadband specifically, which I am sure you will be able to help out with your expertise.

    First, a brief background.

I am based in Pune.Am into IT but not much technical hand-on, so I dont experiment much with settings etc.

I was on a Limited Broadband till 15 Jan, after which I migrated to Rs 749 Unlimited broadband-m 256kbps.

I was and am still currently on PPPoE, meaning I have to dialup from my computer to access Broadband using a userid/passwd. Have aBeetel modem provided by Airtel.

After migration, I have noticed a few things and I need your advise.

    1. The broadband connection keeps dropping off. Sometimes, it will get disconnected on its own although the dialup shows it is connected. I have to manually disconnect and re-dial. it becomes a problem if I keep my laptop on during night for torrents. It is on through out night and in the morning, hardly anything has been downloaded.

    2. The torrent speed has surprisingly dropped. Initially, when Usage based plan, I could get torrent speeds upto 70-80 in night. Now, hardly 30-40. is it right/ok based on your experience?

    Now, the queries :

    1. What can be done to resolve issue #1 ? Should I change my setting to "Always on" broadband ?
I believe the technical term is a Bridge connection ? is that correct ?? Will that resolve the problem or should there be something else ? Will "Always on" Braodband impact my speed ??

    2. Issue #2 : Any tips to increase the download speed of the toreents?

    3. I read through some topisc where the suggestion was to use PPPoE for Unlimited and Bridge for Limited Broadband. Why is it so? Again, which should be used ?

    4. Basically, what I want is that I should not get disconnected when I leave my connection on during night or normal surfing, which did not use to happend before. What should be done to resolve this ? Change of connection type or somne settings ?? I have not still complained to Airtel as I want to undertand the problem first, before I complain and then backtrack because of the crap thrown at me by their technical team.

I hope I have clarified and you will be able to help me,

    Thanks
    Rohit

    You're terminologies are absolutely wrong.

You are Now in a Bridged connection and making it dial automatically is called as a PPPOE connection.

You can try switching to PPPOE for Issue#1 as it would help you by automatically connecting itself even if the network link fails at times.
If you find this type of automatic disconnection very frequently , you should call Customer Care , lodge a complaint and ask them to check your lining all again.

For #2 , Your older plan must have been a 2MBPS plan. Now, you're in a 256Kbps plan and thus , speed would be slow.
[ Note : I've made the assumption that it would have been a 2MBPS plan as most limited plans come with speeds upto 2MBPS.]

#3 is not very significant . PPPoE can be used for any type of plan . Using Bridged in a limited connection , could help you save a few megabytes of bandwidth .
[ Now , if you're going to ask me Why , the modem sends and recieves packet datas automatically in a PPPoE connection whereas it happens so only when you 'Connect' in a Bridged connection ]

As for #4 , reading the above should help you out .
    -> Switch to PPPoE .
Still it disconnects frequently , complain to CC.

    Krishna.
