4MBPS is only for 6GB and after that you will get 256 kbps download.

AirTel is not getting good 512 kbps plan without FUP limit < < i think i am gonna shift to MTNL in a few month if AirTel does not introduces any good plan.

Congrats You are going to make the right choice.
You have a MTNL phone right, So just apply for a BB connection suscribing to any one of the UL plans and feel the difference. After this you can do what ever you want to do with your Airtel connection.

And as you have mentioned before also MTNLs CC is bad and most of the time its a issue at the customers end. So any problems or issues mention them at MTNL broadband section and I or someone else will surely be able to help you. I have been using MTNL BB for 6 years and have got very use to with it.
    So best of luck.

yup, i desparately need a 512 kbps UL connection and MTNL is quiet cheap too, i will try to keep both MTNL @ AirTel for a month or 2 and if mtnl works good then cya Airtel.

BTW same here, had been using MTNL from 2 years, the only thing that their customer care knows is run >> cmd >> ping :P you might know it

Yes I have read many times that Airtels CC is one of the best or its the best.
But you have to pay for that Right?

Some more points that I would like to mention
1.[If theirs a disconnection on Airtel the user immediately calls up the CC and the issue gets resolved.
But in case of MTNL the user must get used to resolving issues himself rather than trusting the CC.]

2.[Airtel guys are smart but their smartness can act in a negative way too.
MTNL people are not as smart but at least they are honest and no chances of cheating at all.]
Ex: Airtel charges for installation on the spot whereas in case of MTNL the installation charges are added in the first billing cycle and nothing except a signature is taken from the user.

3.[Airtel is a private ISP so its target is only MAX Profit.(which may prove bad)
MTNL is a governament ISP so they dont concentrate only on profit but the satisfaction of the customers]

Anyone Please dont get me wrong here. I am not saying that a particular ISP is good and the other is bad.
I am just compairing some facts and points.

Taking Mumbai into consideration MTNL and Airtel are the best ISPs here.
But both have their advantages and disadvantages.

And its really nice that all the ISPs are f***ing each because of the increasing competiation and ultimately the prices are comming down.
Even I am waiting for Airtel to come up with something better than MTNL so that I can have a MTNL as well as Airtels Broadband connection.

As Serveces are concerned MTNLs serveces are really nice and you never have an issue once every thing is set up properly.Sometimes the beginning may be difficult.

    Telecommunication companies are at war
All the customers gain from it

i know Airtel are charging installation charges, but they do provide free phone and also don't charge for router wheras MTNL charges Rs 80/- every month for the router.

So in some way or other this money gets compensated.

& about the competition their are only 3 ISP on the run i.e Airtel, BSNL & MTNL.

The best solution for that is to get your own ADSL modem or modem cum wifi router. Then the charges per month are nil.

Yes they are the three major players but even Reliance and other small ISPs dont want to be left behind. Its good that even if one of them reduces tarrifs to attract more customers the others have to follow and ultimately the overall prices come down.

Ex: In the beginning when MTNL had introduced UL plans(till August 2009) their were only 4 UL plans
    Their tarrifs were
    256kbps @999 a month.
    512kbps @1599 a month.
    1mbps @3999 a month.
    2mbps @9999 a month.

I had suscribed for 999 UL plan and now because of the competion the speed of the plan has come upto 1mbps.

From 256kbps to 1mbps is a big jump.

yes, the money is been compensated in other way, in MTNL you need to buy the modem while in Airtel you have to pay installation charges.

For business people i would highly recommended Airtel, their is no doubt on that, but still for us (downloaders) price really matters.

Well i don't think ISP like reliance will do well, first of all, very little chance they will bring plans like MTNL, they have very high negative reviews, all know how reliance used to cheat customers, and at last they also have worst customer support.

But MTNL is not good for uploaders a, that's concerning me too.

For many tariff plans U/L data is NOT counted by MTNL. This is an advantage compared to ALL other ISP's.
    MTNL user/s please confirm.
    Info may not be correct.
I use both. Airtel/Bsnl BB connections

Airtel takes a NON Refundable Deposit for Modem Rs 500 or Rs 1000/= ( for WIFI router) No monthly rentals.
If you disconnect you have to return the modem in working condition.

My experience AIRTEL: disconnection very RARE.

MTNL provides free uploads of 256kbps on all plans (Limited or Unlimited).

So even the most cheapest limited plan having a data cap of 200MB has UL free uploads at 256kbps and only for 49Rs a month. Additional uploads are available in Mumbai for 500 a month and doubleing upload speeds. So if a user suscribes for extra uploads he can get UL 512kbps upload for just paying 549Rs a month( Good for initial uploaders).

So MTNL is the safest and the best option.
As I have mentioned before also MTNL Delhi provides 512kbps UL uploads in all the UL plans.
So if you have the 512kbps UL plan you get the same speed in both the directions. They will soon implement the same in Mumbai also.

MTNL has made 256kbps history which is a major step in the development of Broadband in India and also I would like to mention that this FUP diease which has affected all the major ISPs in India was started by Airtel(Not really sure).Only MTNL and Reliance are the two major ISPs which are not affected by it.I have noticed that MTNL is the only ISP in India which is making serious attemps to make Broadband better in India and the others are just following.

By the way does Airtel Provides free UL uploads in all their plans specially UL?
I had checked the tarrifs and didnt find any thing regarding upload speeds.

Once MTNL Mumbai too has increased their upload speeds like MTNL Delhi its going to be the best ISP in Mumbai and nobody can argue on that.

Already in Delhi people dont even think about any Private ISP because Delhi has got the best internet plans in the whole of India thanks to MTNL.
