Default Airtel Stay and Gain Money Back offer?

I had choosen to shift ISP and go for the Airtel Combo 499 plan.
    The plan is
512kbps till 5GB ( The 1mbps speed is not available from last week. My bad luck )
    256 kbps after that
    Rental: Rs.499+ Tax.
    Location: Trivandrum

I was told that there is no offer of free installation for this plan even if i pay 5 months at the beginning but there is a Stay and Gain Money Back offer.

    For Normal Modem: Rs.1000 installation
    For Wi-Fi Modem: Rs.2000 installation

What i was told was after 2 months from the third month if its normal modem they will deduct Rs.100 from my bill for 10 months(So i will get back the Rs.1000 i paid) and if Wi-Fi they will deduct Rs.200 from my bill for 10 months(So i will get back the Rs.2000 i paid).

So i wanted to know whether someone is using this Airtel Stay and Gain Money Back offer.

Also he got Rs.100 from me as Notary Charges. Tata Indicom never got something like that. He is saying Tata and Reliance dont get it but Airtel needs Notary sign. Is it so

They are taking you for a ride. Normal modem installation charges are 500 INR and WiFi costs 1500 INR. There are no notary charges. Don't get fooled.

When did they activate the connection? I had taken an additional connection at home and it happened to be the same Combo 499 plan. For four days, I was enjoying 1Mbps. Out of the blue, I get a call from the tech guys stating that they had lowered the speed to 512kbps.

However, I fought back. Sent emails to the nodal officer and the department of telecommunications. They reverted back - apologised for the deed and assured that my speeds would be reinstated by June 5th (i.e. today).

I am waiting for that confirmation call from the Airtel tech division, which they said they will be doing after increasing my speeds.

My connection was activated on 21st May 2010.

Just noticed about the "notary charges" mentioned in the original post. I paid just 1000/-. No additional charges were levied. From the third month, they would deduct 100/- off the bill.

Update - As promised by Airtel, my speeds were upgraded to 1Mbps just now according to http://speed.airtelbroadband.in/

Airtel is really targeting Kolkata aggressively. A friend gave me an Airtel Representatives number. I called him up and told him point blank that I am interested but will not pay Rs 1000/- for installation . He agreed !! However I decided to go for a wifi modem and I paid Rs 500 for the wifi modem. So for me total installation was Rs 500/- and in that I got a wifi modem !! Really good. Gave up BSNL after 4 years of service . Hate to see the 2mbps go but really needed to switch to a stable provider.

After five years with BSNL BB, I can say that Airtel has fast exceeded my expectations with more responsive customer care and higher authorities who really care about the issues of the subscribers.

Ever since I got this connection, I am enjoying seamless connectivity with no interruptions. I also get more than what I pay for - and hence, I am satisfied with the connection.

^^ Does Airtel provide such facilities?

As long as you are with Airtel BB, they would enable the stay and gain offer on your account.

I heard that Airtel will be upgrading the speeds of 1Mbps subscribers to 2Mbps for free. Please keep this thread updated, if you notice speed boosts ..

Subscribers who are enjoying this offer - did Airtel reduce 100/- in the succeeding billing cycles (just as they had promised)?
