Smile When is Airtel increasing their Minimum speeds to 512kbps?

So today the Salesman from Airtel came and handed over the Plan list to me and i was surprised to see Impatience 1299 plan having FUP of 20 GB with a post-FUP speeds of pathetic 256kbps . Another plan was Swift 1099 having 15GB FUP and 256kbps henceforth.

Apparently the other plans have been discontinued and only these will be available for the new customers.

I had to choose the Impatience plan as it was the only "Unlimited" plan that suited my needs notwithstanding the unfair usage policy.

However he also assured me (not actually "assured") that the minimum speeds will be increased to 512 kbps, i.e., post-FUP speed of 512 kbps.

Any idea when this will actually happen ?

July 1st or 2nd Week , latest by August , they have been pushing it month after month , nothing is clear , its pretty irritating actually , first they say double speed for all users , now they say , only for people who have 384 Kbps and below will get upgraded to 512 Kbps .

All info is fuzzy . We have to wait for "OFFICIAL" news from them or any CONDITIONS apply info hidden in some fine print somewhere on the tariffs page

Well in my city they have certainly started doing it. My cousin who had 64 Kbps (!) now gets 512 Kbps.

I have explorer 1099 plan which had 384 Kbps during daytime but now it has 512 Kbps during day time. SO they are certainly going to do it.

BUT it will only benefit those users who have less than 512 Kbps of speed.

The plan i choose has 2mbps for 20 GB and 256kbps after that. will those post -FUP speeds also be doubled?

If not , i ll go with BSNL 1350 UL plan which is way better than this plan...

^^ No. Airtel sticks to 256kbps even when you cross the fair usage limit.

IMO the minimum post FUP speed would also be increased to 512 Kbps. But you should confirm with Airtel.

you don't know the mindset of these private isp's like Airtel thank to god that they are giving 256k speed after FUP and you never know someday when FUP gets more strict then they will cut more speed!

Maybe. But I am using Airtel for the past 4-5 years and have never looked back. The customer care and service is truly awsome.

I am facing some issues with the internet now and their service and response has been nothing short of EXCELLENT!

    Ummm ... not true.

As per TRAI, no broadband plan can be less than 256 kbps. So FUP or no FUP, that will be the minimum speed with any BB plan.

If someone is cutting this further (below 256 kbps), you can make an official complaint with TRAI and consumer court.

My guess is never. It took almost a decade to get to 256Kbps. It takes a lot of political will to achieve development in any area. With a floor management which is scared of technology this is never going to happen.

Well then you would be pleasantly surprised in 1-2 months (Incase your current speed is less than 512 ) coz Airtel has already done that in many cities...

Bhai are you sure about this , because I have the old Explore 1099 Plan from way back in AUG 2008 , but my speeds are still 384 Kbps Day / 1 Mbps Night.

Did you get an official email from CS after the speed change , and have you confirmed if the speed change will reduce the download limit in anyway from Unlimited to 20GB ???

^^ Airtel is doing the speed ugradation in a phased manner. So, you must experience the higher speeds within the end of this month.

Yes I am sure about the speed change. I didnt confirm it from Customer service but I noticed my download speeds changing from around 50 in daytime to 70Kbps. Then an engineer visited my house for some issue and I asked from him whether airtel have upgraded speeds to minimum of 512 Kbps in the city and he replied in affirmitive.

And I have not confirmed about the FUP. I am guessing that it would be same as per the old plan.

No I'm aware of their speed doubling. That is not the minimum speed for broadband. The minimum speed is still 256Kbps for a while and will remain the same for the aforementioned reasons.

So, the new plan is that if you take 512 kbps UL plan and if you exceed 8 gb usage then it will shift back to 256 kbps?

Thumbs down Where is my upgrade

Well I am from Bhopal, MP and I want to ask one question to Airtel

    WHERE IS MY SPEED UPGRADE?

Its 26th June now, is Airtel waiting till the last day of the month.

The new plans from Airtel are the worst from them, Bharti Mittal is acting like a Marwari Baniya that he is, trying to earn more profit by limiting the quantity.

The FUP policy by Airtel stands for F***k You Policy this is what Airtel is saying openly to its customers, we cannot do anything accept cry on forums because corrupt politicians are in his pocket.

Has everyone received there upgrade? I have not received my upgrade till date, moreover yesterday I got a call from Airtel in which the lady was forcing me to change my plan to there new crappy Swift 1099 plan with the low F***k you policy(FUP), I denied and fought with her.

I think they are not willing to give the speed upgrade because I am on the old plan with comparatively high FUP, they think I will change my plan just to get the speed boost.

Please don't leave them until they give you the upgrade, Airtel will try everything in there power just to make you change to there new crappy plans.

I don't think they will double your speeds if you don't switch to their new plans. It's a catch22 situation.

They will have to shift all the old customers to their new plans one day anyway.
