Default Opportunity for cheap broadband lost: Mittal

“There is no question. If India wants cheaper broadband, that opportunity has been bypassed. We will not have cheaper broadband,” Mittal said.
No wonder Airtel BB recently revamped all the existing plans and introduced newer plans for newer subscribers with reduced FUP!!

Every broadband user have its own appetite of justifying the price of broadband they use, some need 10MbPS in 1000!! and some need it in 3000 and too a Full Unlimited one!! a decade ago when everybody is tied to dial up they are happy with 2.3kBps and when broadband kicked in most of the people stick to 64kbps and 256K&512K plan cost was way beyond average user pocket today scene is changed people who dream about 256K is now a basic necessity and plans till 1mbps are easily affordable but people these days are getting more bandwidth hungry and want 4mbps+ plans under 2000 if isp slash prices of high speed plans and make them UL then every tom, dick and harry will suck their servers like bee sucks sunflower.

FUP pinches everyone but think for a while if everybody download 24X7 then whole network will become miserable take BSNL for example their night UL plan which gives 2MbPS speed from 2-8 am screws their network in that UL time frame and those who do normal surf suffers most.

What he says is a bag of garbage, as always. Only now he is feeling the heat of competition, so is crying foul. Airtel/Bharti is the biggest thug in the telecom sector. Be it their mobile business or even their hardware (phones), all I have seen is mediocre quality and swindling in all possible ways. The only dept. that has good reviews is their broadband... though their tariffs are the highest and with FUPs.

And cheap broadband from Bharti, my foot! They have looted in all possible ways, carteled to keep tariffs high, etc., etc. And he expects us to believe that he believes in cheap broadband??

There is no reason why broadband should be any costlier then it is in Europe or North America..

Airtel screwed their own reputation to make a quick buck and the damage is beyond repair.. Airtel is no longer the company it used to be.

Have a read through some of my views : Airtel Broadband PC Secure charges complaint.

Well I for 1 am extremely happy with their broadband service. I switched to airtel when it was launched in my city around 4-5 years back. From then never faced any issues with it. Excellent services at competitive rates and customer service is just 1st class. I had a recent issue with airtel just 2-3 days before and it was fixed almost immediately when they changed the whole cable!!

I am not saying that those who have made complaints here are saying lie or something of that sort. But I am just saying that the experience for me has been very good.

Looks like you are the luckiest fellow in this country. But for us it's a little different, no a lot different. For instance I've fight the hell out with them against their crappy and unethical marketing. So is the case with the most and rest remain woefully ignorant and continue to be cheated.

And regarding Mr. Mittal's statement, this clearly shows that he is scared to the hell by RIL's entrance. Airtel didn't offer cheap Internet when it had a chance 5 years back. Only after BSNL announced a 512 Mbps plan it announced its own.

Mr. Mittal talks some garbage fearing he'll be ousted by his competitors soon. But in my opinion Airtel doesn't need someone like reliance to root their business. It will be done all on its own if they continue with their pathetic service.

Default 512 kbps : BSNL vs AIRTEL

Airtel : Announced in March that minimum speed of BB will be doubled to 512kbps by June. But speed still not doubled.

BSNL : No announcement BUT surprise surprise. On 31st May speed doubled to 512 kbps.

NO. You are wrong. i have never seen any one from any plans complaining that in between 2-8 speeds are pathetic...it might be low cauz of their line issues but certainly not cauz of bandwidth issues from BSNL side.

You haven't seen the new plans then!

it has like two unlimted plans both having 15 and 20GB FUP limit and 256kbps henceforth and we have to pay more than 1000 Rs !

The old customers were really lucky to get good plans with a reasonable FUP limit, new ones not so lucky

I completely agree there. Having 15gb and 20gb as FUP is just @$$%%$.

I am on an old plan which has around 80gb FUP I guess so thats fair I guess. But 15 or 20 gb would surely tempt people to look for others.

Though I have a feeling that post fup speed would not be less than 512 kbps. Would like to confirm it sometime from airtel.
