I will try to explain what I know. More experienced users can answer better.

1.) Mobile internet- I guess its not a specific term. Its just the ability to surf from your mobile. Ex- GPRS (slow speed). You have to get it activated from your service provider and it has various plans and charges depend on that.

2.) 3G- Just like the GPRS. But your phone should be 3g enabled and your service provider should have 3G. Currently only BSNL hass it in my opinion. Unlike gprs 3g is very fast and can b used for watching live streaming, video conferencing etc. Again various plans and charges.

3.) WIFI- See currently you have a modem and you have to connect your modem and pc with a wire to surf internet. Wifi can be thought of as technology which is used for surfing wirelessly.

You connect your modem to a router (they are available for around 1500/-). The router gets the signals through the wire and transmit it in the air. Just like the radio tower. If you are in range of those signals and have a phone or laptop which has wifi....you can catch those signals and use the internet. Incase you have a laptop the experience of surfing net would be EXACTLY the same. Only difference is you dont need wire to connect.

Since your college would be wifi enabled you just need to switch on your wifi and connect to the internet and surf!!

NO. You wont need a router once you head to your hostel.

And if you are asking about a wifi plan for your home then check with your ISP. The wifi plans have exactly the same price as the other plans. You just need 1 extra hardware i.e. router for the wifi nothing else.
