Default Airtel broadband fair usage policy

Airtel has started the process of migrating its Broadband Customers - These upgrades are happening in a phased manner and are likely to get completed by June end(as shared in the press release in March). There is a possibility of some spill over into early july.

Further, all IPTV customers are a part of the upgrade plan. We have already upgraded 256/384Kbps IPTV customers to 512Kbps. Remaining(upto 1Mbps plan speeds) would be upgraded as per the plan.

Given below are the details asked for by you on existing/new Speeds and FUP limits.
    Plan: 256kbps UL
    Old FUP:
    None
    New FUP:
    10 GB
    Speed downgrade on original plan:
    NA
    Speed downgrade on upgraded plan:
    256 Kbps

    Plan: 512kbps UL
    Old FUP:
    100 GB
    New FUP:
    25 GB
    Speed downgrade on original plan:
    256 Kbps
    Speed downgrade on upgraded plan:
    512 Kbps

I think that FUP, though unwelcome, is sufficient. But this is bad news to torrent and other movie downloaders.

Any information about the existing unlimited plans that have 1Mbps speeds?

With respect to Broadband speeds, we are still in stone age. There are many differences between India and other countries like U.S or Australia....

Even then, 256 Kbps plans still prevailing means.... just pity..... What else can we say......
Lucky, BSNL took a good move in upgrading plans for others to follow....

If we prepare a list of questions I am sure Airtel would be more then happy to provide the required info.

I agree its is still more then enough for those people who are not into torrents or downloading large files on a regular basis. Generally speaking Airtel's network will perform better at peak times with a strict FUP in place and people who use the internet for what it is meant for will not suffer due to some download fanatics who cant get enough of the free porn available on torrents

We will see fast and affordable broadband "very soon". Let all of the BWA winners launch their services and we will see a price war just like we have seen in the mobile services sector.. We now have one of the worlds cheapest 2g services in India.
Remember the days when Sify broadband's 48kbps connection was the talk of the town Things are changing after all Slow and steady

Haven't experienced degradation in BSNL's speeds for lack of FUP. They give what they promise... and you get it as long as your line conditions are good. So lack of FUP does not affect BSNL. Does not seem to affect Reliance either. It affects Airtel ONLY??

    1. Bharti Airtel has taken an over $8 billion loan to buy-out Zain Africa.
    2. It has a multimillion dollar deal 10 year deal with SonyEricsson to maintain its tower portfolio.
    3. Another multimillion dollar deal with IBM to maintain its billing and related software issues.
And Mittal has already said that he wants to get rid of the 8 billion dollar debt as soon as possible. So who do you think is going to pay Zain Sony and IBM ? So all Airtel Customers get ready to pay some more.
And Fup is good but not for broadband users BUT for your ISP.

The day BSNL rolls out 30 Mbps plan at the rate of Home 500, I think it should also come with a FUP limit, say about 300GB or so..... It would only be fair even for the 30 Mbps plan subscribers.....

Hope the world won't end before that....

So they are all trying to compensate for their losses by implementing FUP

^^ Yes, it does seem like that.

I would like to post one another query too - Does Airtel ever implement FUPs? I have come across people who claim to surge past their FUPs and Airtel does not lower the speeds. Is it true? If so, then we need not have to worry about such regulations, right?

I've come across many such people too.. I guess its totally dependant on your exchange.. if there are too many heavy downloaders then they might do it, otherwise not.. not sure

Also knowing that there is an FUP is like knowing you have limited money to spend, you wont spend lavishly..

^^ I do not think the speed profile can be altered in the respective exchanges. But, I do know that the speed profile for the subscribers from Kerala is set at Bangalore.. The exchanges merely contain the routing equipments..

True! Availability should be improved if the # of subscribers increase. BB users should not be penalized.

Coming to downloading of content, there is not just porn in the list of torrents. Good TV shows, brilliant episodes like that of NAT GEO specials, excellent audio/video DVD books, world movies etc. are available in the form of torrents that we Indians don't have access to in mainstream media.

I love downloading and watching them. The New FUP is too bad. Airtel should seriously consider liberal policies to stay in # 1 spot.

The connection shouldnt terminate again and again. If thats happening there is some issue and you should make a complaint with airtel.

If Mr Mittal is dreaming of raising broadband prices then he is either living in a dream world or just trying to give out a signal to Reliance Infotel and others that I give up would be greatfull if you dont start a price war like you did for 2g.

Mittal claimed a few days ago that the opportunity for cheap broadband has been missed due to high spectrum prices I cant stop laughing... The spectrum went soooooooo cheap.. Go look at other countries and you would get a shock of your life time... stop living in the cocoon you live in and get real.. If you dont reduce prices then you will start loosing your market share by the tons because others will keep reducing prices.. Airtel used to have an advantage of better quality back in the days and they do not have that edge any more and other players are improving.. Besides that, Airtel has another problem The consumer today is way more informed then they were say 5 years ago.. I get the stink from Airtel on some service issue or billing issue I have the means to convey my story to the masses and so does every one else who has access to the internet and those who read get to know how "a" customer was treated.

The game is changing Mr Mittal... Welcome to the reality... or choose to live in the dark and loose business in India

Reduce your prices! And treat a customer like a customer.
