    Default Airtel Broadband Speed Reduced?

Has Airtel reduced its broadband downloading speed????
I have 699 plan which provided speed of 256 kbps initially.....
and was upgraded to 512 kbps automatically.....
But from past 2-3 days the speed has decreased to 256 kbps again...
Am I the only one experiencing this problem???
    Itz really frustrating.......

Are you getting the FUP (fair usage policy) page when you try to open up a website?

If so, they have enabled lower speeds since you exhausted the FUP.

Did you contact the customer care? Airtel has been migrating users to other plans - without the consent and knowledge of the subscribers.

Please get in touch with them and make a complaint about the issue.

I called Airtel Customer Care....and they told me about there FUP (Fair Usage Policy)....
    What a CRAP!
They told me that i have limit of only 5 GB and after that the speed is reverted to 256 kbps from 512 kbps....
I didn't know about this policy earlier....
Means I have to keep checking my usage the entire month....
When was FUP introduced by them?????
From where can i know more about FUP regarding my plan?
    Thanx cool_techie_tvm!!!

Have you created an account with http://bit.ly/cuPdtI It is termed My Account by the Airtel personnel.

Please create one. Once you create an account with them, you can monitor the daily usage via the same platform.

BTW, where are you located? You can find the relevant info regarding your new plan from the official website.

I really don't understand why its frustrating for you..you were paying for 256kbps plan initially..Airtel increased the speed to 512kbps for free..for 5gb and then back to old speed..You should enjoy this..rather than complaining about the speed !!

The fact of the matter is simple. We did not ask for the speed upgrade. However, Airtel initially advertised that the speed upgrade is performed for free! Little did the customers know that they are being duped by the same company.

My query is - why go through all the trouble? Why did Airtel initially advertise free speed upgrades? Consequently, why did they impose newer revised FUPs on the plans with upgraded speeds? Nothing about the revision of FUP was mentioned in the press release handed out by Airtel. And lastly, why are they migrating the subscribers to newer plans - even without their consent or without even informing them?

As they say, anything can happen in India. The subscribers who pay up for the services are taken for granted by the same service providers!

They are still giving you free speeds at no additional cost..People are paying the same stuff-256kbps for 649rs and now they get 512kbps for 8gb and then back to the old speed. Fup doesnt change for old customers..They keep on decreasing the FUP or increase the rates..for new customers.

Consequently, why did they impose newer revised FUPs on the plans with upgraded speeds?
They imposed FUP to newer upgrade plans..but it was still with the old plans..you were still using it with FUP..now, its like u get high speed for some gb's and then the same old speed with FUP...

You need to check the documentations before commenting this !!

And lastly, why are they migrating the subscribers to newer plans - even without their consent or without even informing them?
I am not being migrated..they increased the speed to 512/8gb and then back to 256. No changes in plan, price etc.

PS: I am also using Tata wimax 2mbps connection-NO FUP..I pay 300rs for night and downloads 300-350gb per month-you read it right. Even they havent changed my plan without my consent-though tata support is not good at all @as per the forum feedback !!

As they say, anything can happen in India. The subscribers who pay up for the services are taken for granted by the same service providers!
No, you have a right to change the service provider..and the service provider has a RIGHT to modify the current plans/services and they don't take you for granted. It's just the two way process.

BTW: I am not a Die hard fan of Airtel coz of there stupid FUP restrictions..they are the ones that initially started all this mess..but people who really getting high speeds without paying anything extra-no changes to FUP -but they still complaint- That doesnt make any sense.

The funny part- they keep complaining/cribbing but they still dont want to change the service provider-reasons..not needed coz they know they are getting best service.

You have to realize that I am enjoying 1Mbps UL for 499/- from Airtel BB - without any FUP restrictions.

However I am awaiting that day when the tide turns against me. Contrary to what you believe - Airtel is migrating newer users to plans with upgraded speeds and lesser FUPs. Yes, the subscriber is given an option to revert back to their original plans - only if they contact the customer care and threaten with disconnection.

In most of the plans, Airtel reduces the speeds to 256kbps upon crossing the FUP.

Kindly check out Airtel breaks the speed barrier -Doubles speed for Broadband customers at no extra cost- In it is has been clearly mentioned that the speeds will be upgraded at no additional costs. There is no mention regarding the revised FUPs.

My existing plan comes with a monthly rental of 499/-. I am provided 200/- free calls too on every billing cycle. Hence, I am perfectly satisfied with my connection. I am not an avid downloader - used to be one - right now, life has more important priorities.

Anyway, at the end of the day I am one happy subscriber of Airtel BB. However, as mentioned earlier, anything can happen to this plan at any point.

You mean to say...they are changing plan on their own for old customers?? then why are u stuck with the same old plan with NO FUP !! lol !! OR you trying to convince that they will get hold of you sometime later ??

No..if they want your plan to be changed- they will change it !! They might have changed-or force old/new customers etc to change the current plan because of abusing the downloads/uploads (some avid downloaders like me are seriously need to learn the importance of other things/priorities " life has more important priorities. ") !! that's why people are complaining on forums like ours but you are still enjoy the same old speed because you're not a avid downloader.

Is this the calculation- Am I calculating right ??

    Earlier, I get 15gb download limit as 256kbps..and then 128kbps for 649rs !!

New FUP- I get 8gb download for 512kbps and then 256kbps for same old 649rs ! If you are trying to calculate the later part of the FUP on the speed of 256kbps - this is hurting those avid downloader who abuse the services and doesn't know the important priorities other than downloading !!

Anyway, at the end of the day I am one happy subscriber of Airtel BB. However, as mentioned earlier, anything can happen to this plan at any point.
You still believe they gonna change your plan soon..!!

PS: You are more knowledgeable in this forum, and attains a lot more respect that a beginner like me can think off..sorry -if any point- you and other thought I disrespect people feelings regarding FUP..I know there are users that are really stuck with this FUP..but my first post was-why does people complain when they doesn't have to pay anything for new speed and using same old monthly rental and FUP !!

I'm having a similar problem, I have the 649 ul plan and a couple of months ago, I started getting 512kbps (According to the new scheme) but now this month I'm back to 256kbps, I know about the FUP and I don't think I've used all of my 5gb for this month.

You can check the download from your account- do you get any warning that you have exceeded the download limit or something ?

Yes, I'm registered there but I didn't know you can check your usage there. I just checked and yup, I exceeded it, strange though I didn't get a warning. I first thought it was an issue in the line lol. Thank you both for your help

    Your argument is interesting ,
i am also a customer of Airtel, upgraded my plan to 512,
its not free upgradation im paying for this, extra.
Still im facing the same Speed reduction, its terrible sometimes.. pathethic.
Now me too got a display page saying that i have used my 80% of fair usage policy,
im asking, whats fair in this? im paying for this service.
    I opt for unlimited connection.

@reji...you're paying extra for what?? check the link posted by @cool_techie_tvm

    Redefines broadband threshold
    • Upgrades all existing customers to a minimum of 512 Kbps speed at no extra cost

I am not paying anything- you opted for unlimited 256 or 512..I opted for 256kbps unlimited- I am getting 512kbps till 8gb and then 256 including FUP..but check the FUP limit they provided..you cant download 24x7x30days ?? If you can..then sorry FUP is bad for you..if you cant..then nothing matters to you !!

Likewise, I am paying for 256..getting 512kbps no cost for 8gb..then back to my original speed ?? Aint this sweet ??

I agree with Neeraj...what the harm if at the same price u are getting 512 kbps for 5 gb...atleast till u use up the 5 gb u have better browsing speeds...id suggest u to use the browsing speed for the whole month and at the end of your monthly billing cycle do all ure downloads and use up the fup...in that case even if you are reduced to 256 kbps for a few days it wont make much of a difference...
