Default Airtel vs Bsnl - pathetic ping times with airtel ?

I have been using BSNL Home 500 and I just took an Airtel 599 connection (1mbps/4gb limit).

Ping times with airtel are ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.

    with airtel:
average ping time to any west coast US server - 400-440ms
    EU servers - 300-340ms

    with BSNL:
    US - 290-320ms
    EU - 200-220ms

Airtel has no night time unlimited, and there's a FUP (dl speed goes down the drain after a certain limit)

So basically, by paying more money, I'm getting a worse connection ?
Am I missing something here ?

Test whether they are implementing FUP on your connection. If you do not download much, most probably they might spare you.

And regarding the ping rates - I find this particular ISP to be much better than BSNL. After all, BSNL purchases hefty bandwidth from Airtel and Reliance.

Also please do check for the mode of connectivity of your ADSL connection. Interleaved connectivity will increase the ping rates by many times. It must be fastpath to enjoy a lag-free connection.

Nah latency has nothing to do with FUP or plan bandwidth. ping times are the same on every connection for a particular ISP.

    basically :

Airtel - terrible routing, terrible/high latencies and ping times

BSNL - slightly better (100-150ms better on any international server)

I really dont know what has happened to airtel ... at one time i used to get better pings than any other provider around ... its since they started the FUP they started screwing up ...
