    Default Airtel Confusion

I recently applied for a broadband connection and am surprised with what level of disconnect the company operates. Each division is completely unaware of other's operation.

First I called customer care who said connection n my area is feasible and they took a request.

That evening a lady called me and asked for details. She said connection is not feasible so not possible.

I messaged airtel account in twitter that they should increase coverage area and they replied back asking for details.

Again a guy called me and asked me to mail me the details. Then no response.

Meanwhile I saw Airtel Broadband leaflets in my street and called the number. The marketing guy came and initially said there are no full ports so it will take 10 days for the connection.

I didnt want to wait that long so I told him that I dont want a connection and contacted Reliance. Later in the evening the marketing guy came and did a lot off sweet talk and promised me a connection within 2-3 days. I reluctantly handed over the installation fees and documents on an assurance from him that it will be installed soon.

Today again the feasibility team checked it and said that the connection is not available. They said they will check if there is any way and get back to me.

I am tired of their ping pong between various departments who seem to be completely unaware of what the others are doing. Airtel has a great mobile service. I wished the same was applied to broadband as well. I wouldnt have minded them not giving me a connection, its the conflicting replies that bother me.

Its your silly mistake,i've posted 1000's of pics of "Metro Ethernet" and written lots of info about it so that everyone can identify it in their area, you should have told that guy to show me the box from where connection comes no matter its Airtel or Reliance, also i told you that take Wimax and be stress free rest of your life but you haven't picked the easy way and opted the HARD way by playing gamble of booking new connections!, get one thing straight the private ISP don't rely on phone lines like BSNL N MTNL do, at some point Reliance is available and at some point Airtel is luckily in my area i have both, these private players hardly care about 1 CONNECTION!.

If Metro ethernet was there in my area, I would have closed my eyes and taken it. But here Reliance is also giving ADSL only and they have to do the same feasibility check as well.

Wimax will not involve feasibility but its way too expensive. 1500 for 600 kbps unlimited is too expensive if you ask me.

Airtel is easier to configure with routers, no web login system and all, thats why I wanted to go for airtel. The problem is these marketing guys are given incentives based on new connections,, so they are doing all kind of sweet talk to get a new connection and then hope that the customer will wait long enough for them to introduce new ports (which could take months). I will see till tomorrow and cancel if nothing is happening. The refund will also take a month probably.

Today Airtel had pleasantly surprised me and I am connected. Yesterday I had told them that if they didnt give me a time frame by today, I will cancel my connection. The lady was very polite and promised to check it out for me.

Today morning she gave a call and said they had figured a way to do it by using a drop wire, and technician will call me. By afternoon a technician contacted me and asked fr addres details. Since I was not at home, he came at around 6 and did the wiring.

When I returned at 9, the person responsible for activation called me and asked if I was avialable for doing the activation. I replied yes and he came within 10 minutes. Configured everything within 30 minutes and left. It took me another 15 minutes to get wireless running on linux and I was connected

Actually on Saturday (when I registered) had they told me this time frame, I would have happily accepted it. It was the confusing statements coming from various departments that irked me. But once it was sorted, they have been professional followed through on all commitments.
