Thread: game ping on airtel

Hello everyone .. I am a newbie here . I want help please ..Currently I have an airtel connection at 512 kbps at Rs 649 per month . I like playing online games for which i require low pings . I can successfully play with Asians getting 40-50 ms ping with Indians and 125-150 ms ping with people of Indonesia , Vietnam , China , Malaysia etc. But I face problems when it comes to playing European players , I have high ping with them like 250-300 ms and sometimes even more ...I mean the game is not unplayable but its not great . So I decided to do something .. I have the following options :

1. Get a new ISP ..read about reliance broadband ..plz let me know if it can give better ping .

2. Upgrade the speed of my airtel connection to 4 mbps at Rs 1400 i think . But i read somewhere that speed has got to do nothing with ping .. Please clear .

3. As i m getting a new laptop soon (Dell ,i3 , 4 gb) , so should i buy wireless net like tata photon pplus or reliance net connect , wimax etc. or should i configure wi-fi on my laptop with my wired broadband on my PC (which doesnt have such a gud config . it has 1 gb RAM , 2.66 GHz , pentium 4) ..

Also temme is it possible for me to have 2 internet connections in my PC and configure wi-fi in my laptop for both of them ..

Please guide me I am very coonfused and have very lesss knowledge about these things since I am only 14. Please guide me so as I can have a ping of about 200 ms with european players .210-220 will also do.. Thanx in advance

i have airtel only ...not reliance

what u r asking for is available only to big businesses. A low ping across thousands of kilometes after going through multiple base stations traversing across the seas halfaway around the globe is a tall order.
There's nothing airtel or any other provider can do abt this at the cost we pay for our services.

I use garena to play Warcraft(DoTA) and have used my PS3 for online gaming without probs.

PS3 works fine with european servers also but garena doesnt so maybe the client is also to be blamed.

Yes wat ever may high speed you get is of no use, as the distance of the host matters.

im having bsnl 1350 4mbps plan & i can play all the regions on my ps3 & xbox.ul get good pings at night in bsnl.

i have tikona wibro 4 mbps and i get <140ms ping for medal of honor. lowest ping till now is 85ms :-(

Hey me I too play MOH 2010 version the game BAAP of all FPS but I am using Airtel 2 MBPS (1299) Plan Ping shows on Europe server is 170+ but when actually I join the game it goes up to 300+ what's with that? I am getting kicked out for this reason. So frustrating because all Asian servers are always empty.

But is there any chance to improve the Ping for this game?

I know this is very old post but still I want to make clear one thing that Ping is not only depend on the MBPS plans It also consider distance between two servers.

For e.g I am in Mumbai and server is in USA or in Europe the ping could be 150 m/s for 4 to 8 MBPS connection. Also it can be vary due to traffic on the servers. Now if u check the ping on Mumbai server Airtel shows 50 to 70 M/s.
for 2 mbps connection.

So for good ping U need Higher MBPS plans + Less distance betwn 2 servers and lots of patience.....

At least more 10 year's will require to have Internet speed like Developed country's.

Reliance Broadband has better (read lower) pings/latency on European servers. I found this out when I played UT2004 from a friend's reliance net connection. When playing with Airtel I could get 220 ms on avg on a euro server while with reliance I got 160 ms on the same server. As for the speed upgrade it is of no use because latency/pings are not related with speed. For your wifi don't buy reliance, their service really is pathetic in that matter;better buy a wireless router and configure it with the wired net.

I have airtel 2 Mbps & Reliance 4 Mbps both unlimited at the same time facing lots of problems with reliance i have bought it just 15 days back.
on other hand airtel is best till now for me.

Usually i play online games on Europe servers. Ping for both connection are same Its 170 to 220 (Which High) For Asian servers it has different ping

Reliance 50-70 (connection unstable)
Airtel 90-100 (U can play like 4 to 5 days continuous)

Although reliance has good connectivity but terrible service (Launched 7 complaints till now still no solution) I am going to stick with Airtel.

For 4 mbps connection(Reliance) I should receive 400 to 500 KB/sec download speed it gives only 50 to 70 sometime 10 KB/sec (For single download) where Airtel gives 200 to 240.
