Did you know that Airtel broadband has a fair usage policy ??? this fair usage policy says that a customer on what so ever speed on an unlimited plan has a DOWNLOAD LIMIT after which your speed will be reduced to 256kbps For everyone who doesn't know about broadband well 256kbps is the lowest broaband speed more info on wikipedia article "Broadband Internet access". Your download limit depends on the plan you choose. If you choose a plan with low rental your download limit is less. If you choose a plan with high rental your download limit is more. 8GB for 512kbps at Rs.899, 15GB for 1MBPS at Rs.1099, 20GB for 2MBPS at Rs.1299, 40GB for 2MBPS at Rs.1699 check out airtelbroadband.in. This is a clear indication that the company is greedy for more resources but cannot increase their rates as they have broadband competitors like reliance check out rcom.co.in So they CHOOSE to exploit the existing customers for more resources. This is the marketing strategy for Airtel India Pvt Ltd to yield more resources out of LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I wrote an email to airtel customer care which said

Whoever it may concern,

I have been an airtel customer for over 7 years ... In fact, I was the 1st customer to subscribe for Airtel Broadband in Pune City.
I have worked for multi ISP's in the UK, which gives me an insight on how ISP's work, where they came up with the idea of fair usage policy to avoid flooding their servers. For which when you sign up it is mentioned in your CONTRACT. This a very old trick in the book, but frankly I think it will just reduce your C-SAT.
I am currently on a 1MBPS speed, for which I was getting a bandwidth of 512kbps as on 17th Aug '10. After speaking to a superior called "Manav Bhattacharya" my speed was resumed to 1Mbps, but he is not sure how long it would stay on 1Mbps and has requested me to mail my concern to this email ID.
As you can see my logs which have countless GB's in downloads, reason being I have such a profession which needs me to download a particular amount of files per day.
When I signed up for airtel broadband, which was 7 years ago, I clearly remember signing nothing about a Fair Usage Policy. On what grounds has the fair usage policy been included in my contract.
I would humbly request to resume my connection as promised with 1Mbps speed without the fair usage policy.
If you are unable to provide the internet connection as promised, please inform me asap so I can look out of internet connections with your competitors.
I shall appreciate a call back on my alternate phone no. ie 9823478818 from a person with authority as it would be more convenient to discuss my query.
Thank You.

Try to understand the intensity for the mail and all I get is a scripted reply. That has proved to be extremely poor customer service. I have 8 - 10 emails like this. I hope after reading this, airtel customers realize that they are being taken for granted and they need to stand up and give airtel a feedback.
