Dear fellow users, I have an airtel 2 MBPS plan (Rs 877 per month) for past 2 years approx. While I get a good download speed (of about 2.1 MBPS), my upload speed is an abysmal 50-70 kbps. The upload speed is so low that I am unable to host webex meetings, which seriously hampers my work (I am an IT professional and host 2-3 meetings weekly using webex).
I called up Airtel Customer Support and they say they do not guarantee any upload speed. They only guarantee download speed.
I currently use a Beetel 110BXI modem (provided by Airtel) and a Belkins wireless router (model N150), which I puchased on my own. By the way, I have connected the model to the router by LAN cable and then connect the router to my office laptop by LAN cable (and NOT wireless). I use the wireless router to connect my personal laptop.
My questions:
(a) Could the issue be that I am using a router in between? Will the speed improve if I connect laptop directly to modem?
(b) Earlier I had a beetel 220BXI modem; due to a lightning surge, it went broke and then airtel replaced it with 110BXI modem. Could the change in modem be the reason for low upload speed?
(c) Do you know any other service provider who provides better upload speed? I called up BSNL (Dataone), but they dont guarantee any upload speed as well. Actually the customer support lady did not understand what upload speed is; she was only talking about download speed and upload/download data limit.
Your suggestions on the above 3 questions would be greatly appreciated. Oh by the way, I tested my upload/download speed at speed dot airtelbroadband dot in and speedtest dot net.
Many Thanks,
Vijay
