    Default Hidden airtel Broadband plans?

    Hey guys,
I'm currently with bsnl broadband on the 1350 ul plan. While the speeds are good, their fup is killing my gaming, after fup, ping shoots to 300-400 to blizzard servers, while the speed cuts down to 512.

So I was looking the airtel website and found the 1249 plan for chennai which has a 50gb limit.

I google "airtel broadband chennai" and it comes up with a few agent numbers, I talk to the first one and he says that he can give me a plan that will have 1mbps, 512 after fup, with a 100gb limit, and this for 1350 (with an "offfer lasts only till tomorrow tagged to it, lol!).

I call up the airtel and they say thats an old plan and give some bs plans with a limit of mostly 20-25 gb , with fup of 256. (they also had a 2mbps plan with 40 gb, but it's for 1699, a bit more than what I'd want to spend, and only for 40 gb ).

I'm confused about this do I believe the agent, when he says he can "work out" a plan for me. Or is it better to stay with bsnl with their 512 post fup speed?

And whats more confusing is that the fup fq in the airtel website says speed for 1mpbs plans post fup would be 512.But the support exces says fup is always 256.

So guys with airtel, what is the fup speed for you guys, and is it possible to "work out" a plan, or should I better stick with bsnl?

    Thanks

If I was you I would cut down on the time I spend gaming and stick to BSNL. Airtel sales guy created a plan for me for gprs back in 2008 and later I found out he lied to me... There must be a long post about this on the forum somewhere!
Airtel is a good service provider but their staff tends to lie to prospective customers to make their own sales stats look better.

They are only skin deep. Like 60 paise per MB of excess usage reduced to 20 paise. The main plans' tariff remain the same. You get 256 Kbps for Rs. 499 and 512 Kbps for Rs. 750.

I used to have BSNL but I shifted to Airtel even though it was costlier. Problem with BSNL was their pathetic customer service. It something goes wrong it usually used to take a week to get it fixed. Now with Airtel its much better. I am with their 1 Mbps unlimited plan (with fup).

    Update time!

I spoke to the guy again and asked him how he would go about doing this as I could not find this plan he offered me in the airtel website, and the airtel customer service reps didn't have a clue about this plan. He said that he would put me under an older plan( apparently this plan existed about 1 year ago or so) and he would put the plan as a transfer plan from an older customer.

Theoretically it sounds good. I know a friend who got this done. But the problem was after 3 months, airtel sent a mail saying he was being migrated to a newer plan, and there ended the story. So I wont be taking this. My search for an fup less plan continues,

Reliance apparently has no fup, but they do only the wimax stuff in my area, which I don't really want, because I've heard that wireless stuff has pretty bad ping bumps.

So I've finally decided to shift plans to the bsnl 1700 plan from the 1350 "UL", which has a unlimited till 40 gb limit( 256 afterwards).

Apparently I was automatically shifted from the older 1350 plan which has 2 mbps when feasible to a 4 mbps till 20 gb at the start of this month. (LOL! like thats going to be enough).

    Seriously, I agree fraudband!!

@KumarGupta, I've actually had a pretty good experience with the bsnl broadband support guys to date. The english helpline guys are useless, they never pickup the phone and when they do, they are rude and dont know jack of what they're talking about. The tamil helpline guys( chennai) are actually quite good. They follow up very well, and get the engineer to talk to me about the problems if the cant find out what is wrong, and mostly solve my problems within a day or two at the max.

    Thanks for replying guys!

The term was coined by a contributor to vinuthomas.com back in the days (not so long ago) that BSNL launched its "broadband" service with a speed of, ha ha, 256k! I think though, that some of the cable guys are even worse!

4Mb/20Gb would do me very nicely, but I shifted to Airtel, due to terrible BSNL line quality here, and, as has been mentioned, the absurd amount of time it can take to get a reponse out of them. Airtel is vastly superior and their engineers don't stand there with their hands out. However, Airtel won't give me a 4Mb plan --- but at least that's honest of them.

I'm very suspicious of the ethics of some of these independent agents, though.

We still have BSNL landline. It goes down every three or four months: I register a complaint online, and it comes back again. It's down at the moment, though, despite being reported yesterday. Your observation is noted, and tomorrow I'll get my wife to call them in Tamil. They laid a new cable in our street, and told us they had built a new exchange. they haven't transferred us yet. Even when working you can hardly hear the dialtone for crackle!

Please dont go for airtel broadband. Their customer service is pathetic. It was not like how it was some 4-5 years back. If u have any plans to go with Airtel, please think.

I don't doubt your experience. My experience is quite different, with fastest response from Airtel being an engineer at my house within two hours of logging a call.

BSNL failed to fix basic connectivity issues even after weeks.
