Default How to get my Airtel Broadband connection terminated

After a lot of frustration with Airtel's ridiculously low FUPs, I have finally moved off from Airtel to MTNL. My MTNL Triband got up and running, after a few initial hiccups.

So now, I want to terminate my Airtel connection, for which I have called their Customer Care and got a "Complaint number" with an assurance that they'll get in touch in 7 days. I have looked up a little over the internet and have read a couple of horror stories about Airtel broadband customers trying to get their connection terminated.

So, I want to ask those who have had experience with this:

1> How long does it take to get an Airtel broadband disconnected?
2> How do you fend off the retention cell guys?
3> Can you outline the process you have to go through to get your subscription terminated?
4> What do I have to do to ensure that I am not scammed anyway (like being billed after my connection is supposed to have been terminated)?
5> What are the possible scams that the Airtel guys might be up to?

Obviously I cannot get these queries resolved by the Airtel Customer Care people.

    Thank you in advance.

Go to the nearest Airtel outlet and surrender the Telephone ( and modem splitter if asked ) and get a receipt in your disconnection application.
Check the bill on the spot and pay the dues.
Send an email to 121@airtel.in informing them of disconnection.
You will get the routine auto generated acknowledgement.

With own phone instrument check whether disconnected or not after 2 or 3 days.Airtel retention cell will try alternate phone /cell number to contact you. (if you had given them.)

    Thank you for your response.

I use my own phone and modem, didn't take any from Airtel. So I guess, I'll just have to take the splitter and get disconnected, then.

Another question. I use an 'unlimited' flat rate plan. So will I be billed for the whole billing cycle or for the number of days since the last billing date?

Airtel charges on Pro rata basis.
Billing cycle usually from 26th to 25th.

    In Chennai, not usually insisted.
I returned Only Telephone Instrument. Get receipt.
Modem was not listed in installation. No Deposit was charged.
The Deposit is NON REFUNDABLE, and
cannot be adjusted against cost of Modem.
    Any way try your luck.

@abymac: Any update on how it went through for you. I'd be disconnecting Airtel services after a few days/weeks. Your feedback is appreciated.
