    Default Airtel blocking torrents!!!!!

Hi ..i have been a happy airtel customer for 5 yrs....since few days experienced slow torrent downloads with speeds fluctuating between 15-30.I have a 512 kBps plan although its been upgraded to 1 Mbps due to their stupid FUP thing.
Then i started noticing that speeds would go back to normal exactly at 11:09pm at night..so i get 1 Mbps at nighttime and slow speed the whole day.Today however while i was downloading a software...it took a lot of time for me to connect to seeds and peers...around 10 mins and i only got connected to 3 seeds whereas a friend of mine who has BSNL immediately connected to 25 seeds..i tried a diff torrent and it also took 10 mins to connect to seeds and peers and they were in low number too.So my guess is i think airtel has permanently capped connection to seeds and peers too.Earlier they were giving slow speeds and now they r capping seed peer connections too..i have yet to test my torrent connectivity at 11:09 pm to see whether i get immediate connection and full speed. Are any of you guys experiencing this?i have also noticed tat irrespective of ur FUP crossed or not they won't give u any connections still.....i just had a doubt wether they r doing it to heavy users or everyone....also i wanted to know wether its taking a lot of time to connect to seeds and peers in the daytime..I am from Lucknow..thanx a lot...ANKUR

I dont think Airtel is blocking torrents. On 1mbps I am getting 120Kbps. so i think its ok. Try port forwarding on Airtel connection. You can find details in the forum. By the way i dont use port forwarding still getting good speeds. might be some problem with your DNS. Are you getting full speed when you try direct download. Try downloading something from microsoft site.

Well i dunno what went wrong i increased my max no of connections to 200..they were 100 previously and now i can connect to seeds and peers...however i previously used to connect on the same settings..i.e. the 100 one...well for now the connection probs solved....
I tried a direct download from filehippo and youtube and i am getting full speed on my 1Mbps connection..its only on torrents that i don't get speed until its after 11:09pm....i get only 20-25 kBps......after 11:09 speed is there until 10 am in morning after that its again throttled.
So i think airtel has indeed throttled torrents and u r lucky that u r still getting good speeds in the daytime ..i just talked to a friend of mine yesterday and even his 256kbps connection is throttled and he gets only 10kBps at daytime...maybe Airtel has yet not started throttling in Delhi..well i am going to Delhi tomm anyways ...i'll check their at a friend's house.

Airtel applied Stupid FUP on their connections to avoid the situation of throttling the speeds. Lets hope after FUP Airtel spares us. Youtube is already miserable on 1mbps. Dont know whats in store from Airtel.

999 for 1mbps 15gb FUP. Already so expensive and Airtel wants more.

    Yes, they are. I have a 1 Mbps/2Mbps connection.

During December I was facing this problem as well. During 5pm - 10pm torrents would be very slow. Everyday I complained to them till one day a network engineer showed up at my place.

I showed him that Ubuntu Linux was downloading normally via HTTP method, but with the torrent method it would start, then come down to slow speeds (< 50KBps)

He fiddled with the MTU size on the modem and pretended that it went away. But I feel that he had to set something on the network servers for my connection for the torrents to work properly.

    Default yes

I am also getting this problem on my 2mbps connection.
In morning the speed goes to 240kBps but another time speed is limited under 50KBps. This is on torrents.
If i use IDM my speed is constant at 240KBps any time i use.

Airtel has became a bunch of cheaters. They did not satisfactorily solving a problem and saying that your router or pc has a problem.
But i also check with another router and problem occurs

I am thinking to going for another service provider.

This problem comes from start of june month.

Hey guys from which city you are plz answer.
    I am from Lucknow.

    @essbebe
My modem is beetel 110TC 1 and firmware version is T1B-0Q-013.
Airtel Speed Test shows download speed as 1.02 Mbps and upload as 447 kBps.
My plan is a 512 kbps plan of 1499 which is 5 yrs old and is no longer available now.My speed was increased to 1Mbps for an FUP limit of 25 GB after which it falls down to 512kbps and not to 256kbps.My billing cycle starts from 26th of each month which is from today.
I have posted my SNR as attachment....
I don't think any settings will help anything as Airtel is itself the culprit here

[1.02 Mbps and upload as 447 kbps.]
    ALL seem perfect.
[i also use same modem 110TCI]

Have you enabled Firewall in the router ?

    Any port forwarding done ?

Did you disable tr_069 client ?
[airtel accesses your modem for FW update etc ]

Are you having a self care page / usage check etc

    Tried online complaint there ?

Yes my firewall is turned off in the modem homepage and i have CWMP disabled...i guess that means the tr_69 thing is disabled..my FUP has been renewed today and i still am not getting full speed on torrents..they'll only come after 11:09pm...i don't have bandwidth monitor software but the cap is there as my speed do not rise till after 11:09pm

    @vshubham is ur prob resolved?

Well i guess then the prob is the torrent itself but i am experiencing low no of seeds and peers(not more than 10) on many torrents....... although speed is good after 11:09pm
@vshubham3 what are ur global max no of connections and no of connected peers per torrent?

This could be because of the seeds/peers available in westen countries(US, etc.) who are available late nights; but, I could be wrong.

For 3 years didnt had problems with torrents, but from last 3 days the problem has started. On 1 mbps the max speed on torrents I am getting is 50Kb/s and on direct downloads its normal around 130Kb/s. Ports are properly forwarded and utorrent shows connection working fine and no changes made from my side in the router on system network. Hoping its temporary issue from Airtel.

@pisces m Is ur speed also less at nighttime?..If no...then airtel has started throttling ur connection too and if its less at nighttime too...then maybe its some other reason.
