    Smile Airtel 220 BX ADSL2 + Modem

    Hello Friends,

    I am having a Airtel 220 BX ADSL2 + Modem and a 399 Rs plan.

I am having a desktop and recently just bought a laptop, so i was thinking that is there any option so that i can use both at the same time and the laptop as a wireless. I am currently using the RJ45 port of the router for the connection with my desktop and the USB port is free so i was thinking that is there any option for the modem i have so that i can convert my router to a wireless router by attaching any cheap enhancement to the USB port and enjoy the wireless technology of the laptop.

Please reply. If what i am thinking is not possible plz provide an alternative.

    Default Airtel 220 BX ADSL2 + Modem

It's not possible with your existing modem. There are two options for doimng the same thing:-

1st- Purchage new Access Point and atach that with your existing modem via RJ-45 Port.

2nd- Purchage Wireless ADSL modem and use that.In this case your airtel modem will not use.

So both will cost you near about 2000 Rupees, So i sugest you for second option.Get new wireless modem and use that with your laptop and desktop.Desktop will connect with RJ-45 Port of modem and your laptop will connect with wireless network But both(wirelessand lan) will not work at the same.If you want use internet on both(laptopand Desktop) at the same time then you need to one wireless lan card for your desktop PC and that will cost near about 800 Rupees.

yes . You can use the USB port of Beetel 220Bx ( call it modem) for your Desktop/laptop. ( in the CD USB drivers are provided ) If you want to shift your laptop in the house , you have to have a lan wireless adapter fixed ( near the left side ) Connect a wireless router. to Beetel modem.

    Not correct.
    .
Wireless ethernet PCi card for Desktop will cost around Rs 250/= or so ( febronics chinese equivalent of Realtek )
Ask any friend having Dataone to buy the SmartAx Mt882 wireless modem ( cost around Rs 1500)

Explain situation to Airtel CC and they may provide Beetel wireless modem.

reference : Welcome to Beetel Modems

Either your Desktop or laptop must have a LAN wireless Adapter.
The Wireless router is the Transmitter and Lan adapter is the receiver ( freq around 2.4 Ghz)

Default converting Beetel 220BXI ADSL2 Modem to wireless router

    Dear essbebe,

Is it possible only to convert this beetel modem to wireless router to be used by only 1 laptop. No concurrent use.

Is it possible just to connect an antenna to either USB or Ethernet and use it as wireless router for the laptop.

    Please reply.

    Regards

    @ravic
You can send an email to 121@airtel.in
say you want to use your laptop in wifi mode.
mention your phone number with std code. `
they may change the modem to a wifi model. say Beetel 450TCI or Beetel 450BX
You may have to pay additional NON refundable deposit of Rs 500/=
As it is Beetel 220Bx cannot be used in WIFI mode.
