Thread: Streaming Speeds Adversely Affected On Airtel

I have a 2mbps plan, and for the last few days I've been having trouble streaming videos on all major sites like vidxden, megavideo, novamov, playhd, divxden, playhd.. and a host of others, I never had these issues ever before... the speeds are worse than dial up connections.
But while downloading I get ful 220-250kbps speeds? Is airtel blocking streaming sites? any answers?

Yes Airtel is definately throttling youtube and other video streaming sites. Even a 360p video on youtube takes time on 1mbps plan.

Just out of curiosity i googled for xxx stream sites and surprise many are working fine even with good quality streams.

Next thing from Airtel will be like this.
Pay Rs.5000/month for 2mbps 50gb FUP with no restrictions ( Youtube and torrents will work perfectly) lol

I have been facing this for the past few weeks as well.

I have a 4 Mbps Unlimited (FUP) connection and get that speed for data / torrents etc. Video streaming was a breeze even at 720p. However, lately, I can't even seem to view a 360p vid uninterrupted. This clearly shows that Airtel is specifically throttling vids and not data.

They still haven't included all sites yet. Lesser known tube sites are still working fine and so it's clear that the issue isn't at the customers' end.

Try open dns or google dns. I tried from last 2 days my youtube videos are streaming ok. Will switch to Airtel DNS to check if there is some problem or not.
