    Default Airtel Wifi Modem

    Hi all,
I'm planning to get a new laptop and so I need Wifi at my house. I currently have the simple modem/router of Airtel.
Can Airtel replace the modem with a Wifi one? Will there be any extra charges?
Also, would it be good to go with the Airtel Wifi modem or purchase my own (Any recommendations would be helpful)?
    Thanks in advance

If you want to get it changed from Airtel then in very obvious conditions they will charge you for the same or they might ask you to upgrade.

If you want to purchase your own WiFi router then there are number of good brands available in market, you can consider giving a chance to Belkin, Netgear or D-Link. I will suggest you to stay away from any unnamed or chinese product which doesnt have warranty.

Most of the Wireless G routers from Belkin, Netgear and D-Link are available between 1200 to 1800 rupees.

Did you make a NON REFUNDABLE deposit of Rs 500/= for the adsl modem ?
( No rental charged each month )

Now if you return they may charge you additional Rs 500/=for the 3-in 1 adslmodem+wifi router.
( or bill you Rs 1000/=and allowing you retain the adsl modem)

Both units to be returned on surrender of connection.
(+ telephone instrument if supplied )

Procedure might have been changed. Please check with CC.

Thanks smoothvibes and essbebe for the reply.
I understand they'll charge me and I will have to surrender the modem at the time of disconnection, which is a no go for me at least. So, I think my best bet would be to buy my own Wifi router, which leads to a rather technical problem
I want to do away with the Airtel modem and install just the Wifi router that I'll buy, would I be able to use it without plugging in the Airtel modem? or the connection only works with Airtel provided modems?
    I'd appreciate the help

    You have misunderstood the post.
Did you pay refundable deposit of Rs 500/= for adsl modem ?
Now if you want a wif router
    see options :

    (a)
airtel can take back the adsl modem and ask you to pay additional Rs 500/= and give you a wifi model
( same Non refundable deposit )

    (b)
forget adsl modem ( you retain it !), and ask rs 1000/= NRDeposit)

    (c)
take back the ADSl modem and ask for rs 1000/= (NRdeposit)

    (d) ask you to buy new one at about Rs 2000/= cost

    Contact CC or send email.

    (e)
Your own wifi router ( to be purchased from market ) to be used with Airtel modem will cost approx Rs 1500/= and above.

    (f)
Since you retain the BB connection and do not want to use Airtel adsl modem, a 3-in 1 ( adslmodem+4lan port+wifirouter ) will cost about Rs 2500/= and above depending on model.
