Default Airtel 499 Plan - Need help

i guys i am using airtel 499 plan for last 1 n half years i kind of on sky with this high speed for low price lately i started to watch more movies online and download tons of software

problem is i dont know whats its FUP limit basically plan is

1 mbps speed until 5 GB download then 256kbps unlimited

but i used to enjoy this 1mbps speed for like 100GB download every month even more i think ,until few months back when it went to 2mbps speed then starts the problem i soon run out of GB as i dont know whats it limit and suffered for half month it felt leaving in stone age really .Though its speed is back to 1mbps.

and lately starting get an Email from airtel i just notice its like this

    Dear Airtel Customer,
You have consumed 100% of your high speed data transfer limit of 5120 MB. Now you will be getting a revised speed till the end of this bill cycle (as per the bill plan subscribed by you) and the speed will be back to normal at the beginning of the new bill cycle

totaly my question is if u have same plan what is
    • FUP limit on this plan
    • How to find bil cycle
    • how to see my broadband usage like BSNL
    • and does airtel changed there plan i am quite in shock if they i will definitely quite it

hmm now getting 256 kbps speed felt like i am in a jungle with no one around

Another funny thing i want to mention is when this plan is released its meant for new customers so they kept it quite but i got one friend who work in airtel and got this plan in within 1 week of release ....and everything is ok i never bothered about plan and when i recently talked to Customer care on my speed is low i found something weird

that guy said there is no mention of what plan i am using in there database and i thought if i make a issue they might go through more i might lose my precious 1mbps speed

so is it legal plan ?? .. And did any one of u who had same plan checked in u r customer care and what they said ???

when i talked to my friend about this he told only 1500 people all over india got this plan in selected city and when its reached to 1500 airtel stopped this plan is that true ?

Its all in the Hands of telecom companies, We sign the contract which states somewhere conditions apply which means we will be harassed on later level.

The email clearly mentions that your FUP limit is 5GB. I think you have a great plan because now the lowest plan from Airtel in most of the circles is 649 2mbps 3GB FUP. So you better stick to it or upgrade to better FUP plan.

I am on 999 plan 1mbps 15gb FUP and from last 6 days I am on 256kbps thanks to Airtel as i crossed 15gb which includes download and upload. I downloaded a Movie for which i uploaded nearly 2gb and downloaded only 700mb as airtel has started to throttle torrents and this leads to speed limit exhausted. From last 6 days not able to enjoy youtube and most sites load slow and voip services are down quality. So we are now forced to subscribe to more expensive plans with higher FUP or stop using torrents specially as for all other uses 15gb is good according to Airtel.

I was on 999 plan and suddenly 1 day I was informed there will be download limit or change to superior plan. The saying of Airtel will be final or you are free to choose other operator Customer care will say.

wow i feel sorry for u thanks god speed is back to normal and let me tell another thing even if i have 5 GB limit they are not reducing it after 5 GB it might be like around 75-100GB bcs i pretty sure i use 1GB at least per day

before it was normal in morning i just got curious about Speed on demand

and went there and selected my city and know what i am totally shocked 50rs for 1mbps /hr and 75 for 2mbps /hr
then i give it a try and tried to download a file and it wont impress me as i always on 1mbps plan regularly but back i dont bother about time keep using net all time now i have to keep eye on clock every 10min it sucks soo much anyway airtel speed on demand is total **** 50 RS for 400mb ??

anyway i still got few questions left without answer above ?

I am not sure about the 1500 subscribers only part attributed to this plan. If that is so, I may be the one who came at 1501. Initially after allocating this plan to me, they migrated me to another plan without my consent. The official explanation was the plan is no longer available.

I had to pull some strings within the organization to get back into this plan. 5GB is the official FUP. However, it is never strictly enforced. They reduce the speeds to 256kbps once we cross the FUP limit. It is possible to get back 1mbps / 2mbps by disconnecting / reconnecting. Sooner or later, they are going to fix this too (since the same "trick" was patched in most of the other plans with FUP). Once we cross 30GB, then it becomes tough to get back the original speeds.

Register the connection at https://ebpp.airtelworld.com/cares/wps/myportal This portal will show the monthly usage. For me, the billing cycle is 5th of every month.

This plan is a blessing for me although I am not much of a download junkie. I am connected to the world markets 24 x 5 .. hence something like this plan (low rental / good speeds) is good.

In Delhi Speed on Demand rates are Rs.30 for 1mbps till 10pm and Rs12 from 10pm-7am. I am using from last 3 days while making voip calls as on 256kbps skype sucks.

Go for BSNL BB - who gives you unlimited plan for 750 with flat 512 kbps
meaning there is no FUP in BSNL.
Its 512 kbps all the time thru out the month. My monthly consumption would be around 100 to 130 GB (up and down)

^^ A problem with this plan. They screw up with the speeds randomly. It is basically a hit and miss affair. If it is your lucky day, you will get 1mbps. Else it is 256kbps throughout. Have to live with it.

i think airtel is doing something because now i am getting only 256 kbps even i did not crossed FUP or even 5GB i have to use Speed on demand to watch video and all i am getting tired of this if this continues for this month RIP airtel going to that 750 BSNL plan and in our region BSNL service is also gud . or i will go to that night unlimited plan as i use net in night and download a lot it wont be a problem

^^ I told you earlier. They are patching up their systems in a slow and phased manner. So it was only a matter of time before they patched the loopholes that were present in this peculiar plan ..

Hey ajay.. This is Pankaj here from chennai.. iv been an airtel customer for the last 5 yrs.. but sometime last month i deactivated the account to go for TIKONA (biggest mistake of my life).. after 3 months these airtel ppl got behind and told me about this 499 plan with 2 mbps till 5 GB and after tht 256 kbps.. so thts how i got the plan from airtel and ive been on tht ever since and enjoying it.. a few months i even downloaded far more than 10 gb w/o any reduction in speed.. but for the past few months ive been getting these messages like uve used 80 % of max data and 100% of max data and the speed is tremendously reduced.. think the are fixing the problem like someone suggested! anyways.. it got really annoying so i have shifted to bsnl now.. just filled in the forms yest.. they are goin to activate it in 2 days.. after tht bye bye airtel!

i had same speed till September and now i have the same problem . i download more that 110 gb per month bu now no even 25 gb .

i think it was a trick as i told them i am going to remove the airtel connection the provided me wirh this plan . and i felt like heaven with no fup but now i am suffering !!!!

i am a anime fan [Japanese cartoon] so i watch a lot of videos online . please help me if you know how to get my old plan back .

an i got a trick to bypass this i don't know if its working now.

    1.Switch OFF the modem
    2.Restart modem
    3.power off system

    or while downloading torrents
    in the middle of download
restart the modem and you may get the same speed as before!!!

is this my fault or airtel fault ?

Hii good too see some one like me

i am a great anime and manga fan i watched tons of animes

    for example few famous of them are naruto,bleach,one piece,code gueass,death note,fullmetal alchemist,samuri x,hunter x hunter...it goes on

and i am just like u with anime used to watch new movies online .

the modem reset thing worked for some time for me too but now Its not gonna work anymore .

Beside u cant complain to airtel also as there plan is only 1 mbps till 5GB then its 256kbps

now its been more than 10 days as i put this thread i am only getting 256kbps and sick of this so i will go and take a class to airtel customer care for giving me my 1mbps speed for atleast 5 GB only if they wont i will threaten them like suing in consumer court .

All in all lets go to BSNL as my friend told i am planning to shift from airtel - BSNL UL 512kbps plan with no FUP so hope that helps us ..but my family really hate BSNL as my father worked in reservation counter they faced tons of problem with BSNL.

    @ xosist

Airtel has patched all such loopholes with this plan. The patches are here to stay. There is no way to circumvent the speeds.

All one can do is to suffer with 256kbps UL or migrate to some other plan / ISP.

^^ Probably your billing cycle for the next month started off from today. They reset the speed to 1mbps every time the new billing cycle starts.

    Check out http://goo.gl/2MCMY

These are some of the new plans that has been introduced by Airtel. There is much speculation regarding these plans - some say it is the impact of the fabled 4G broadband services set to commence operations from January 2012.

The customer care officials do not have clues about these plans since they are relatively new.

As of now, there are no loopholes to get back the 1mbps speeds of this particular plan. It seems they now follow the speed control mechanisms utilized by other ISPs (such as BSNL). The speed profile is set on the server side; unless we know someone within the organization who can reset our speed profiles...the subscribers have no other option than to continue using broadband at 256kbps.

thank you for fast reply ., how did you get the info ? you have some connections to airtel?

so there is something called uncapping broadband limit . do you know and does it work ? its bit confusing so i did not try , and dose't work in windows 7 .
-its ok i ll wait till January and hope for same plans !!! or else some other ISP

and what about the bsnl UL ,no FuP,512 KBPS ,750 Rs .?? is it worth?or is that plan still available ?

Dude let me tell u dont try anything with u r broadband connection or modem

basically every computer connected to network has 100mbps connection u can see it if u place u r cursor on network icon in tray but u will be only allowed to use specific amount according to what u pay ..but if u remove that cap u will get that 100mbps speed and soon the system of ISP provider is messed and u will be identified in no time and the company can make u stay in jail for some time and also charge very high for playing with there system

And this plan is now fixed - so either stay with it or move to other :P

    I am from Mysore

hehehe we both have lot of similarity ..i think if u have any one around u r area in manglore who has BSNL definitely u can have 512kbps connection which is not bad --- i wath anime and movie online more rather download ...
