Default Mysterious and Bugging Airtel Script

Each time I exceed my usage quota on my airtel broadband, some kind of script FORCES itself on my browsers (all of them), and forces me to Upgrade Airtel and takes me to the Airtel page.

It is not a virus, it is some Airtel SCRIPT that they have uploaded to my computer via the modem (220BX), which repeatedly forces me to pay more once usage quota has exceeded.

I have NEVER installed any airtel software on my computer, so it cannot be anything other than them uploading this horrible script through their MODEM.

HOW TO DISABLE THIS SCRIPT? IT KEEPS MAKING MY COMPUTER HANG.

It seems Airtel is full of ideas. After all, FUP is one Airtel's brilliant ideas copied by all other providers.

Thanks EssBebe, but can you explain in more detail?

I have changed modem settings successfully in the past, but still not really an expert.

What I fail to understand is HOW dare Airtel upload and execute a script on my computer without my permission.

What a bunch of idiots. They are getting pathetic now. Their customer care's knowledge was never too good, but now even that is getting pathetic.

    Considering other broadband options now....

Airtel is not uploading any harmful scripts. When you exceed the allocated FUP limit, they merely redirect you to a private webpage. I agree it can be bothersome at times.

    Cool_Techie_Tvm:

They were hijacking my browsers, redirecting my browsers OVER and OVER again. That is the same as intrusion. It is a hostile act.

Imagine someone takes control over your car and forces you to drive to the petrol pump forcefully...everytime you start your car.

    Its INTRUSION.

Whether thru a script or browser hijack or any other means.
    _______

Essbebe -- I've not seen the Intrusion/browser redirect after taking action as per your post. If it resurfaces, I'll post here. Thanks once again.

    I understand.

The next time it happens (it will happen again since disabling CWMP has no effect on DNS redirection), just close the existing browser windows. Wait for 15 - 20 secs. Then start browsing.

The problem is we keep on opening up newer tabs and the same webpage will be displayed until this threshold period (15 - 20 secs).

We have to live with it if we have to enjoy their services. You can always return the gratitude with your money, though!

Or if you have guts, sue them. You are not bound to face this agression. It's frustrating for Consumers and any product or service which hassels with customer is against law. You can either call them and tell them you don't want this headache and disable it for you. If they don't do just drag em to the court. This companies do w/e they want cause we tolerate it and we shouldn't. You can either way send an complaint to TRAI but best option is consumer court or high court.
