Default Extreme Harassment by Airtel Broadband

Since 2007 August, I have been using Airtel Broadband in Noida (Ac.No. 12928654). For 50 months I have used their 999 unlimited plan, without ever getting any sort of discount. Unfortunately, in September this year, I had to shift my residence to Sector 15 from Sector 35. On Sep 26th this year, I launched a request for shifting my connection (Req.No.4680178). They assured me that it will be done within 3 days. But even after 3 days, no one called me or ever did any relocation. So I called them again.

This cycle continued for 2 weeks, and finally I got fed up and on 13th October, I requested them to close my connection. (Req.No. 4711768 & 6309914). I have been calling them every day since launching that request for the deactivation of their services. So far they are refusing to disconnect it. I got the bill for Sep27-Oct26 period, and now I am expecting another one for the Oct 27-Nov26 period. Can anyone tell me what to do? I am even ready to bribe them so that they will disconnect their connection.

    Thanks,
    Noida123.

I presume you are speaking with the customer care officials. What are they saying when you ask them about the status of the requests (which you had placed for closing the connection)? Are they closing the requests as "solved"?

If so, the next bet is to contact the higher officials (such as the nodal officer / appellate authority) via phone / email. Make sure to include the request numbers in this communication - hopefully, the connection should be closed without any issues..

Thanks a lot for the advice dear. First I'll try to contact them by email. If that doesn't work, then I'll call them.

Please keep the thread updated with the latest happenings. It may help others who undergo similar situations with Airtel BB.

Got a call from Airtel yesterday saying that they are ready to shift my connection. I told them that I got a new connection and I have applied for disconnection.

Then again got a call from Airtel saying that my requests for cancellation has "vanished" and I have to make a new request. So made a new request with Complaint number 6972098.

    Default Gave up hope

I called them 6-7 times in the last one week and wrote 2 mails to Nodal Officer. No use. No one ever bothered to do anything. At last when I called the customer care executive, he told me to pay the bills for the month of September and October, else my connection will not be disconnected.

Completely shameless people. They are saying that they actually did the shifting on October 8th, although I was calling them every day. They are telling me that my connection was running from October 8th (no one from Airtel even called me on October). These people are worse than bandits. Never ever seen such outright liers and cheaters in my life.

Although I didn't used my net or land phone for a single minute during this time period, I made the payment of Rs.2279. But even after this they are refusing to disconnect their services.

I am completely fed up. Can anyone recommend me some good lawyers?

Why are you paying the bills for an imaginary service? Stop paying them. Once the payment stops, they will start inquiring. Then you will have a chance to explain the situation.

Give a complaint in consumer court. No need for lawyers not takes much time. By that way you will be safe from the collection agents of Airtel.

Stop paying bills and you will receive them on your door step very soon. Keep a record of all interactions as proof.

But do stop paying bills as they serve no purpose.

Make a visit to the nearest Airtel center.
Give an application for disconnection. Get receipt in your copy.
Surrender the telephone instrument/and Modem and get a receipt.
    Send an email, confirming above.
They will check up the acct and may ask you to pay the arrears , which you can refuse./decline.

    2. Take up new connection , with some other isp.

I just want to get rid of this f***g company once and for all. Even if this cost me 2 or 3K, I don't care. All I want is some peace of mind. After all, it is my fault, since I was the one who decided to use their service.

Companies such as Airtel are leeches. Once we enroll for their services, they stick on to us and will never leave us.

Personal experience - I got a call from one of their collection agents asking me to pay up 4000/- for a postpaid mobile connection which I had discontinued two years back! Since I had the bills with me, I managed to wriggle out of the situation. Their demand was also plain and simple. Show them the last paid bill and they will drop the charges. Perhaps they never expected me to keep those bills even after two years.

    Default Sad...

Sad to hear your story. But it's surprising that you paid them. It may not have been a big amount for you, but the cause was foul on their part and you shouldn't have paid. Never mind. That is never going to be refunded. I suggest you go with Tikona now. They have good plans for Delhi-NCR. Although, I'm using Airtel for 3 years already :-P

I had a similar experience with Vodafone USB 3G plan. Thier sales guy sold me a Sim for free saying it is 3G enabled. He also told me about an unlimited plan at 3G speed for Rs. 500 only. Months passed and 3G was never launced in my city. I never used the sim too. Two bills reached my house on time. I made simultaneous complaints to Vodafone on phone and e-mail. After a while, I got a letter from their lawyers stating that what I am doing is punishable and that they have the right to take money from me by any means. The bills stopped coming from the third month. The amount that I have to pay is only Rs. 1000. But it's the question of morals and truth here and I am not going to give in.
