Default Very slow Torrent Downloads...Advice Pls..

    Hi all,

I got my connection a 10 days back, and mine is a 2mbps plan.
Was getting 2mbps speed as promised for torrents.
All of a sudden for past 3 days, my torrent speed is very worst , say upto 25 kpbs. (Was around 250 kbps before that).

I dont know why this happens. I am new to broadband and please help me to sort out this pls..
I am using media get as my torrent client.
I am getting 2mpbs speed for all other sites except torrent.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you on Airtel in Bangalore? I feel there are known routing issues and also check your 'Torrent' Settings. 200 Global Max Connections, 50 Max Peers and 4 Upload slots per torrent seems to work okay on uTorrent. Of course, hasn't worked well the last 3 days for me.

1/ Try capping upload speed to 60-70% of what your connection is capable of
2/ Get uTorrent/Azureus or something popular like that and see if that helps
3/ Enable Protocol Encryption (Preferences>BitTorrent in uTorrent)

    Hope that helps

Airtel is well known for throttling torrent speeds during day time. You should get back the original speeds while torrenting (if the FUP limit has not been crossed) by 11 to 12 pm everyday. It seems, they switch off the torrent throttling mechanisms during the night.

I guess i get only decent speeds at night (even at 2 - 6 am upto 100 kpbs, not more than that), in day times i hardly get anything more than 25 kbps.

Mine is 2mpbs connection n I got connection only 10 days back, in starting 7 days i was getting good speed of 240 kbps at anytime of day.

I am confused what went wrong. If Airtel is throttling speed, why i am not getting it even at night?

I mean, as i am completely new to torrent, i am not sure what is happening.

Initially i was using Mediaget as my torrent client, in which i got very slow speeds in recent days. Now i switched to Utorrent in which i could get decent speed atleast upto 100 kbps.

Is it happening only with me? I am from Royapettah , Chennai.
Pls help me to sort it out.
Will it be any good to contact Airtel customer care?

Try bitcomet torrent client. Gives me the maximum allowable speeds.

The throttling business of Airtel is a hit or miss affair. Normally, the throttling effects should cease by midnight. However, for certain subscribers, the throttling effects continue throughout the entire time. There is nothing which can be done from our side.

Yes, you may contact the customer care. But I doubt whether it will be of any help since this throttling is done automatically.
