    Thumbs up RE : how to transfer data with my friend on a LAN?

    ya its possible if you are using Linux Distro' s install samba or smb file sharing software and configure as you need ..

    If you are using Windows it is not safe to enable file sharing ..
    anyhow i will tell you, just do right clik on the file you need to share
    properties->sharing->configure as you need.

    How far does he live from u ?

    If he lives in the same building then yall can run network cables and add a switch , he can share your data and you can share his , but if he lives more than 100 mtrs , you are looking at high maintainance , and hardware costs
    1 switch for every 100 M of cabeling , where are u going to get the power from if it is more than 100 M , permission to lay the cable , cable breaks . **** it's like maintaining an ISP ( like Shitty Sify ) forget it if it's more than 100 mtrs , if it is under 100 mtrs , then enjoy buddy enjoy !!! :14:

    There is absolutely no need to reply to very old threads when no one is looking for answers unless the questions happens to be a real problem that everyone faces and no one has found a suitable solution.

    But such a question is hypothetical; because if it is a problem everyone is facing then everyone will be asking it. I have already told jakemake123456 not to post meaningless posts.

    essbebe is right.

    It is a question I felt I had an answer to , post count means nothing to me !

    I had time on my hands , the thread wasnt locked , the person was still looking for an answer , it's very easy to come up with conclusions .

    I have learnt my lesson right now , since sharing is such a problem then lets ALL STOP SHARING !!!

    Here I think jakemake123456 is right and there is no harm in writing any post and apart from that his post is still telling something about switch and about LAN, it is possible that in future if someone tries to check anything about this topic he can find something useful in this thread or can continue this thread and if he is doing this to increase his post count then also whats the problem.
    As per best of my knowledge most of the users don't write any posts and the number of guests (who come here just to read or to search) is always higher than members (who write posts or contribute) so there is no harm in writing a post.
