    Default Airtel broadband 8 Mbps

Airtel broadband is the first internet service provider to launch a 8mbps connection in India for residential purposes. At present other isp's offer speeds ranging from 256kbps to 4mbps but airtel is now leading when it comes to speed and reliability with this new 8mbps plan launch.
Airtel broadband has been known for reliability in the past as per Indian standards its by far the best isp in the country. Airtel is going to offer this new 8mbps plan in the range or Rs2000 per month with a bandwidth cap of less then 10 Gb but to be honest its no use to me as I dont like to check my usage every now and then and the prices per mb after you have used up your quota are too high for the comman man to afford right now so it would help if they launch an unlimited 8mbps plan instead may be for a higher price if need be.
Airtel broadband is also working on providing 8mbps speed plans to those who dont want 8mbps 24/7 so it will be like 256kbps at night with unlimited transfer and 8mbps speeds during the day or something on those lines or may be 512kbps speed at night but whatever they work out I am really hoping that they launch an unlimited 8mbps plan as soon as possible and I would love to get a new airtel boadband 8mbps connection the very day.

What do you guys think about this new 8mbps offering by airtel broadband?

    Default 8mpbs Baah!

The question is what will the actual download speed be....

I have a 2 mbps Airtel connection - the average download speed is 380 kbps and upload 140 mbps. So I am getting about 1/6 of what I pay for.

When Airtel says UP TO 8mbs I can bet what it actually means is PROBABLY 1 mpbs.

Yeah....its a goood think to do with Indian Internet connection. Actually here in India internet connection is five times the cost that is available in US or UK. Here people aren't able to even get 128KBPS unlimited connection as it's priced at Rs.699/- PM where as in US 2MBPS unlimited connection is available for $25 i.e. Rs.1100/- PM & moreover Indian ISP's don't know that doubling the internet connection speed won't just double Cost. So i think this 8MBPS unlimited internet connection here in India would cost 32000/-($760)PM then who will be able to get this connection, it would be costing a months salary!!!

airtel offers a max speed of 2Mbps whr b stands for bits
    2 mega bits = 2048 kilo-bits a second = 2048/8 = 256 Kilo Bytes per second
and i think wat u r talkin abt is bytes .. post a screenshot of ur bandwidth test
    And yes .. u guessed it rite Airtel`s 8mbps is actually 1MBps

You are correct about the price difference between India and USA. This is true about cell phone service and internet too. In US it is all unlimited even 10 years back. And the price was/is way less than what we pay in India.

Guys I am 100% sure that this upto 8mbps will maximum give just 1 mbps. And I don't think they'll be giving unlimited plans although they have mentioned.
I need just the maximum possible unlimited plan and no limits.
Currently according to airtel unlimited 256kbps plan is the best.

    Default Not confused

2mbps is 244 kilo bytes per second.

The speed I was getting was 380 kilo bits per second.

This is a factor of 1/5 (244 divided by 47.5), so I was getting 20% of the speed I was paying for.

I would appreciate 'Admin' not making condescending statements such as 'Yes you are right.. He got confused between bits and bytes.'

Although 8 mbps is great and this is really a great jump in the indian broadband scene and I hope that soon BSNL too join this bandwagon and start offering the same.

You have also made the point clear that regardless of any speed the way to fit in is to get the unlimited plan because, you know, the issues most of us get into with over usage and over charge due to lack of fool proof method to calculate the downloads or uploads by various ISPs. I guess soon, we might see the unlimited 8 mbps with unlimited plan.

i really don't get broad(?)band connections in india...back in the UK we had a 40/20 Up down connection for half the prices of the respectable(no not even respectable) connections here...

The BB infrastructure in india isnt enough to satisfy the demand [I am talking about the undersea cables connecting India to the outside] ...so BB here is very costly and speeds are very limited ......

No all the data plans available with Airtel are data-capped.
