Default Changed my plan and I have no control :-(

Airtel has changed my plan this month and I got a letter about the same days after they actually changed the plan.

I think they do it delibrately so that we do nothing about it as the letter says if you do not like it, let us know before so and so date, but they send this in such a way that is reches us after that date.

I didint get it.. could you please elaborate, why have they hanged the plan without you requesting for it and who gave them the authority to do so. After all you are the one who pays for it so you should be the only one who can decide which plan you want not airtel.

I got a letter from Airtel Y'day and the letter says that the plan I had(from last 2 years, unlimited download during night) is no longer valid so they would like to change it to a new plan which charges me 150 Rs extra for month.

And, if I did not want the change, they said I need to get back to them before 26th Nov. This I get thru a letter on 29thNov.

They had other methods to let me know about this change but they preffered to send a letter. The know how to contact us if is is promotional stuff, but when this is the case they just drop in a letter.

I agree it is bad practice but they have covered themselves for situations like this one and we cannot challenge them in a consumer court for discontinuing with an old plan but as you said you were not informed in time and were no given any notice in advance atall , thats something which can warrent legal action but the problem is that this issue is considered a bit too small by many and they never bother going to a consumer court.

I really hate the way isps disregard the law when doing something like this to increase their profits.

Yeah, apart from that I am still a happy user of Airtel and will continue to be for their connection reliability

Well i think you should call them and if you like to you switch back to the previous plan and also you can warn them not to do this again as they have no legal right to do such a thing.

This is not happening first with Airtel. At least you got a letter before changing plan. One of my friend had a very bad situation where his plan of nightime free download was changed without even informing him and the next month he got the bill for around Rs. 10,000 and he was shell shocked and had to run between airtel offices to let the amount reduced to the normal rates but only after spending his precious time. These ISPs are taking the customers for granted and should be controlled.

Yes i think this is a good idea. Just issue them a legal notice that they have no such legal right to change customers plans without customer consent and they are liable under law of contract.
