Default Unable to connect to VPN using airtel broadband

    Hi Folks,

I have very recently subscribed to the airtel broadband connection and have been provided with Beetel 220BXI ADSL2+Modem. I am able to access the internet sites without any problem. However the moment I try to enter into the VPN of the client using a client software (Nortel Contivity) the connection does not go through. I am not sure why this is happening but would honestly appreciate if you guys have encountered this problem and the steps you have taken to resolve the issue.

    Regards
    Raja

    Hi Raja,

which airtel plan are you on ?
Did the VPN Conncetion finally work ?If so what are the changes to be done ?
I'm planning to take a new Airtel Unlimited 512kbps connection to use it for my VPN connection to work remotely for 3 hrs daily.

could you please advice me which plan is the best so that my VPN gets connected.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

I am currently on the Unlimited 256Kbps package of airtel broadband. Working of VPN does not depend on the package or access speed but entirely depends on the network Protocol used in the Connection type setting. By default the connection type is set to PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) which does not let VPN work. So you have to switch to Bridging mode and the VPN works without any issues. You can dial into the airtel broadband customer care and get someone to help you with the changes. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    regards
    Raja

    Default RE:VPN Connection

    Hi Raja,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.on 256 UL plan what is the average speed are you getting? for downlaods ?Do you get frequent disconnections ?

Which plan is better 256 or 384 kbs?
    I heard 384kbps UL is 999Rs

I wanted to know if 256 UL plan speed was really sufficient for you to run the VPN, if not I would like to take 512 or 384 kbps.

    Kindly answer my questions.

    Thanks.

    Chikitha.

    Hi,

I am not sure of the average speed for the downloads but I can for sure say that 256 Kbps is good enough to connect to remote servers via the virtual private network and work on them using the VPN client software. Going for a particular package depends more on the necessity and budget point of view.

    Regards
    Raja

I have used many VPN software over my airtel connection and never had a problem. It surely has nothing to do with Airtel plan or speed. You need to check the settings of either your VPN client or the router / modem.

    Raja,

I faced the same problem and when i used bridging i was able to connect to VPN (Nortel Contivity VPN client).

But now recently i got a multi port modem. But I'm not able to connect to multiple systems at the same time in bridging mode.

Can you help me out? I want two systems to connect to Internet simultaneously and also use VPN.

changing connection type from PPPoE to bridging mode?
Open 192.168.1.1 userID admin password : password.
    Select WAN
    Uncheck PPP/PPPoE
    Select "Bridged"
    Save and reboot.
wait for 2 or 3 minutes.
    Use a dialer to connect.
