we bought a 2mpbs connection with static ip. we are not able to connect more than 1 system for internet browsing. router is connected to a switch. from switch all systems are connected. we are not able to browse the internet
in the system. no help from airtel engineer mr.asis, tirunelveli.

He says more than one system cannot use, as we bought static ip.

Instead of connecting the router to switch ,you might connect the net to a PC then use the PC as network server to share internet through that PC.

Static IP has nothing to do with more than one machine trying to connect to internet. Configure your ADSL modem in PPPoE mode and everything will work.

Bro I had the same problem . I have 4 PC's and wanted to connect them to broadband .

Here is the hardware I have

1) Airtel ADSL 2+ Modem ( Beetel 200 BXI )
2) Dlink 8 Port Switch
3) Lots of network cables.

==========================
I made sure that the Airtel ADSL 2+Modem is configured in PPPOE mode and not Briged mode
( PPPOE mode is recommended for people who have unlimited broadband connections )
I assigned static IP's to all the machines , in the series 192.168.1.XXX
I connected a network cable from the Airtel ADSL2+ Modem to the Switch then to the remaining machines.
My problem was that inspite of assigining static IP's to all the machines I still wasnt able to browse , this wasnt a firewall problem , I was pretty sure about it . I looked at the Beetel router configuration page , by going to 192.168.1.1 in IE and found out that DHCP was enabled .
Disabled DHCP , and I was able to browse on all the machines without a problem .
Maybe this might help .

Static IP is not recommended. The correct solution would have been:

a) Leave DHCP on, on the router
b) Remove static IPs from PCs and set them to automatic.

Airtel will not help in this. You have to do it yourself or call some network people.

The router's default ip is 192.168.1.1

If u use static ip for clients, in clients' LAN properties, you have to give the above as default gateway. For DNS also, try with same ip address, do little R&D and find the solution, its simple. This setup only i am using.

Exactly why I say that you should not use static IP's for local clients. The DHCP service in the router is going to do this for you. Leave the job of assigning IPs to clients to DHCP. No need to fiddle around with individual PCs.

Today you may have 4 PCs in the network. Tomorrow you may add 2 more and a networked printer. Unless you are a networking expert, you will start pulling your hair out.
