Default Download Limit used when copying data from laptop to desktop??

    Hello All,

I recently got Airtel broadband 777 plan - 2MBps with 4GB limit. As part of an offer, I got an WiFi router free with it. Since my laptop is WiFi enabled, I have been able to network my desktop and my laptop and can see the shared drives on each.

My question is if I copy data from laptop to desktop, will it count towards my 4GB download limit? I don't think it should, but thats what the Airtel engineer said. Can somebody please tell me if this is true?

    Regards.

No. No. Absolutely not. The Airtel engineer is a first class idiot. How can it? This is data copying inside the network (intranet). You are not downloading anything from the internet.

This data copying will work even if you plug out the telephone cable from the ADSL modem; of course modem must be switched on. If the cable is plugged out and then you are copying, how will Airtel (or any ISP) be involved?

    LOL

in that case as per Airtel engineer if i am using a office network

then all the data which is going to my server and coming form my server should also count

I don't think that intranet traffic is counted

But make sure that it is intranet what i mean is that the IP address is XXX.XXX.XXX.YYY

YYY can be different but XXX.XXX should be same

Which means that any traffic coming form a system is not sent to the gateway that is XXX.XXX.1.1

If the traffic is sent to the gateway then it will be counted

In your case as the IP are intranet the gateway will not be used and hence it will not be counted as uploaded/downloaded data
