Modem to use with 2MBPS Plan - Chennai

Hi!

Long time lurker with a newbie query. I am about to order Airtel 2MBPS home plan (Chennai). I have 2 choices regarding the modem, viz:
1) Get the Airtel-supplied FREE RENTAL modem (which do they give BEETEL or D-LINK)?
2) Try and configure a 2Wire 2700-HG DSL gateway to use it with Airtel (2Wire.com: Gateways) both 2700-HG and 2701-HG are listed there. This modem was last used in the US with AT & T.

Experts, do you have a recommendation one way or the other?
