Rep Power: 2 | We have just set up a LAN composed of 5 Compaq desktops and 3 laptops, many of these dual boot (Win Vista Basic / Win XP) and Fedora 9. The computers are connected to a D-Link DES 1016D switch. Access to the net is via an Airtel broadband Beetel 220BXI ADSL2 modem which is also connected to one of the ports on the switch. So now we have access to the net from both sides on the systems, Windows as well as Fedora. Now - I also have a wireless router DLink DI-524. is it possible to hook up the wireless router to one of the ports on the switch and enable wireless access? |

| Platinum Member | Yes it is possible. But make sure that D-link wireless router's IP address is from a different subnet from the Beetel ADSL2 modem, i.e., if Beetel's IP address is 192.168.1.1 then set the D-link Ip address to something completely different such as 10.220.89.1. In the above senario, all computers connected directly to Beetel and the switch will have an IP address in the range 192.168.1.* whereas the machines connecting to D-link will have IP address in the range 10.220.89.*.

Rep Power: 2 | Thanks for the responses. I don't know much about communications / networking, and the wireless DI-524 was also purchased a while back, I don't recall if any instructions / software came with it. Could you explain how to configure the device (in simple terms)? Would really appreciate it. |

| Platinum Member | A switch does not require configuration. Refer here for networking guide: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...etworking.html (A Guide to SOHO Networking) Also check this out: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...onnection.html (Solution for multiple machines connecting to same BB connection) |

Rep Power: 2 | Not the switch. Configuring the wireless! Will look at the docs. And separately - I turned the DI-524 on, and my Nokia e61i recognizes that WAN and asks me for WEP key. I know I set it to something a year back, have to now figure out how to reset it... |

Rep Power: 2 | I have to read your docs in detail. But I must say - you write REALLY well! |

Rep Power: 2 | Resolved. Connected modem to wireless, wireless to switch, reconfigured IP addresses based on wireless settings. |
