Default Is Airtel capping the download speed?

I have a Home Unlimited connection, 384 Kbps.

When i try to download files, (DL Manager), the speed starts somewhere around 120 Kbps and drastically goes down to 45-50 Kbps in few seconds.

If i check the speed in some broadband speed check site metres, it shows the speed is more than 400 Kbps.

    The router is beetel 220BX1.

Is airtel capping the download speed? Is it possible to overcome this problem?

The first 5~10 KB of any download usually starts at a ridiculously high speed but it settles down to the "proper" speed immediately.

I do not think that Airtel is capping speeds. At 384 kbps you should get a max download speed of 48 KB/s. This is what you are getting.

Even if Airtel is capping speeds (in your case 384 kbps), you cannot do anything about it.

you are on 384 kbps plan so you should get 48KBps, if you are getting that be happy if you get any thing more that is just a bonus, but dont complain if the bonus is not constant

    Default 8 bps = 1Bps (so 8Kbps = 1KBps)

basic computer terminology used to fool people...

bps or kbps refers to bits or kilobits per seconds

    so 384kbps is actually 384/8 = 48kBps

BTW I have also subscribed to 384Kbps unlimited plan, and believe me I get more than that! Min 50KBps (ie 400kbps) and upto 65KBps (come on calc it)!

    So simply, AirTel rocks!

i hav experience three new connections in indian broadband services ,all of them are biggest cheats,
first of all beginning 3-4 months of ne connection,
in my case:Reliance broadnet and then i switched to Airtel Broadband we opted for 649/- per month plan in which during the initial months:
1.fast uploading of youtube average size video was avialable
    2.song download was lighting fast
3.sites like adobe.com,3dm3.com and other high profile sites opend up quickly

and after that huge upload delays, even now 1 min youtube video uploads with pauses and delays

And yes i can prove it all to the consumer forum,

i did the screen recording of all the prformance charts[the real usage chart not the shitty graph that company directs u to monitor]

and comparitively if we had same bitchy services in US,people wud surely went out on roads to bang thes cheater companies who are building jus names and not service quality

    Guys wake up,its real!

The original thread was started a long time ago. Since then Airtel has implement the Fair Usage Policy or FUP (more popularly it is known as f*** user policy ) for unlimited connections. Under this policy, the download speed will be reduced to half after certain download usage is reached.

You can hack your modem to get around this FUP but only problem is if you get caught you might be tried under IT act2000 which carries 2,5lac or 3 yrs imrisonment.I think airtel user should warn that you will google bombed( not real bombing its related to servers) their all websites. This technique was employed by Pirates Party (Swedish: Piratpartiet) to threaten their Defence ministry for giving bandwidth for WiMAX spestrum.

Angry Yes ! Airtel caps the speed

Even if U are on retention plan... unless U have something written... they cap ur speed to 256 kbps after certain usage even if U are on 2Mbps.

I am speaking as I got it from 5 reps in cc and 2 in cancellation department....
They call it F.U.P. - Fair Usage Policy.... (I call it F... U... C... K... User Policy............even if the rep from retention would promise U verbally that Ur speed will not be capped still... it will be capped...I do not blame them...they must be getting that kind of charge by the suppliers in Singapore/Asia

Why nothing is done abt it...just, bcos its in India...I am sure if it was in USA or UK they would have sued them for not giving the right info in the T&C I do not deny the fact that they mention the FUP.... but where is it mentioned that if U wanna retain a customer and if the plans are different then it still aplies ???(not mean to say I love US or UK....infact I love INDIA and I am pained cos I wonder why not in India... when dumb brownies and the crack yankees can get it (by hook or crook)... why not us...I think we are more intellectual than them at any given time and place)
Hope service providers (all- not only broadband) would learn to keep their customers happy rather than keeping their pockets full and moving hand in hand with their service providers and cheating customers.... coz they shd know... if there is no customer.... ther is no use of service
