Default AirTel Sales Person's Promise

I wanted a broadband at home in Pune and I was approached by AirTel Sales person (some Dhirendra). I specifically asked him if I get a static IP or not. He was unable to answer this (as well as many of my other questions) and hence contacted his superior (Ashvin Soni). I talked to Mr.Soni and he promised that I will be given a static IP. Finally I decided to go for it.

To my surprise when the technician came to install, he said that AirTel doesn’t provide static IP to residential customers and I am promosed something that is out of AirTel policy and I will have to live with a dynamic IP.

I have now asked them to disconnect the broadband.

I am surprise to see this kind of practice in a company like AirTel. Sales people promise anything to achieve their target! I am trying to contact the sales person Dhirendra but he is not picking up his phone :-). What a professional attitude.

Mr. Mittal are you reading this!!!!!

There are a number of things that you would need a static ip for:
>running a server

>keeping your offshore server more secure by only letting certain ip
addresses into the backend of your servers.

and many more uses the list is endless but its a shame that Airtel did this to you

Default Configuring DHCP

Dear Drobin,
I am using airtel brodband connection at my home and i wanted to make the connection wireless. I have a linksys WRT54G router which worked very fine with my earlier reliance broadband connection but with airtel i am unable to configure the DHCP. i had taken the following steps:-
- Changed my wireless router's IP.
- Tried connecting using PPPoe.

but all of these options dont help and the internet doesn't work wireless way. The connection doesnt take a IP from airtel only. please advise regarding this issue how can it be resloved.

regards,
Abhishek

@India broadband - For Airtel, the static IP is an addon. They charge around Rs. 1250 per year for the static IP. VSNL, under postpaid gives static IP. With prepaid, there isn't any static IP. I guess we need to have the features written from the sales guys. They really needed to meet the target and some earn their bread wrong way.

@abhishek - Even after reading SKAP's post, if you need help, do reply and I will post the screenshots for you. We have such a setup here.
